Student Work Protocol
Purpose
Teachers use the student work protocol to examine the work of students in order
to discover students’ learning strengths and needs and determine how best to
address them through long-term and short-term planning.
When to Use
Working within early release or PCT, use the student work protocol after
administering the beginning-of-year and end-of year assessments as well as the
quarter summative assessments to analyze student work as a means to inform
long-term and short-term planning. Individual teachers can also use the student
work protocol for classroom assessments to inform short-term planning.
How to Use
Select appropriate student work to be analyzed for instructional planning
purposes as well as the criteria for the student work. Analyze the student work to
identify students’ learning strengths and needs. Identify patterns and reflect on
implications for instruction and assessment. Make adjustments to the
instructional plan based on the analysis.
