In the case of Conkasha Labradors/Golden Retrievers; ‘Royal Canin Maxi Mother and Baby dog’ has been fed since 2 weeks of age, moistened to various degrees with hot water, you will see what your puppy prefers with regards to slushiness/dry pellets. But the puppy has had mother’s milk on tap too, so please feed your new puppy three times a day for the first week away from their mother. You may find lunch is surplus to the puppy’s needs, and this could fall away, but puppy must be fed twice a day until 6 months of age at least, with the best food you are able to provide. Occasionally/twice a wk, I mix in a raw egg into meals, good protein kick. Should u wish to change your puppy to another food brand, do so gradually to avoid upset stomachs/runny tummies. Milk is not recommended for your puppy, nor are any rich foods/leftovers etc. Marrow bones (raw) or the like are good for teething, gum cleaning, freshness of breath and a general treat for your puppy, aswell as rawhide toys/cow hooves. General Vaccines, dewormings & parasite control : Conkasha Labs/Goldens : Puppies leave for new homes between 7-8weeks of age, they have had one 7-in-1 vaccine at 6 weeks of age, and will need another at 9,12,16 weeks of age to ensure full immunisation to start his/her life. Vaccines are then only required annually. It is recommended to stick to the same brand of vaccine through-out the first year, but your vet will do as he see’s best... Dewormings : Conkasha Labs/Goldens have been dewormed at 2,4,6 weeks of age – this should be done again at 8,10,12 weeks of age, thereafter monthly for the first year, followed by every three months of his/her adult life. (Veterinary products are advised – alternating products). This ensures optimum digestion frm the best nutrition, hence giving good bone substance, good coat, and all over wellbeing. Protexin a readily available probiotic powder that also assists to keep everything healthy from the inside out. Parasite control : Frontline or similar products are suggested for tick and flea control, speak to your vet for a product best suited to your puppy – age and size play a role. Most dips and shampoo wash out when ur puppy/dog swims/is in the rain. The best controls are the oil ‘spot-ons’ applied between the shoulder blades, these withstand water activity and last for up to six weeks. Do not wash ur pup more than once every eight weeks, it strips the skin and coat of natural essential oils. Potty Training : One of the easiest ways to potty train a puppy is to simply pay attention and watch for signals. After your puppy eats or drinks, take him outside to go potty within about 10 minutes. A puppy will always need to go to the potty shortly after eating or drinking When you notice the puppy sniffing around or if you see him start to squat, quickly scoop him up and take him outside. When you take the puppy outside after eating or drinking, do not use this time to play. Simply stand or sit off to the side and wait until he finally goes. Praise him alot once he has weed/pood. Training : Puppy socialisation and basic training are always good. . I recommend training at an outside base only starts when the puppy has been immunised to the full, so that would be at 12 weeks/3 months of age – after all THREE puppy vaccines have been given. Please ensure ur puppy/dog is also protected by tick and flea protection before you mix with other dogs/on a large public ground. Training can be extremely entertaining and also could get u competing with ur dog in obedience/carting/agility. But I will glady assist in helping u find ur feet at a show. Its good for the dogs, to get out and see alot of dogs together, its good for owner/pup bonding too, plus u get to see how ur dog compares in the show world , its not everyones cup of tea, but it can get exciting Once again, any questions, problems, info wanted – please don’t hesitate to contact me, and I always love photos sent my way, to put really good ones on the internet, but generally to see how each puppy turns out.
