Garner United Methodist Church Job Description: Preschool Director Position Description: The Preschool Director of Garner United Methodist Preschool shall provide oversight and management of the Church Preschool program. The Director shall ensure that the purpose and mission of the preschool as prescribed and approved by the preschool Board of Directors is accomplished. The purpose of the preschool is to provide a high quality early childhood development program within a Christian framework through educational instruction, interaction with peers, self expression and exposure to, and participation in cultural and religious activities. The Director shall be responsible for ensuring that the preschool program provides a proper setting where the emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual needs of young children can be met. Through collaboration with the church Program Director, Pastor and other staff, the Director seeks to ensure that the program meets the educational needs of preschool children while providing them with a foundation for Christian living in the future. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree in early childhood education or related field and/or the equivalent of education and work experience in a related field Strong organizational skills Excellent communication skills Competency in Christian education CPR and standard first aid certified Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents, children, and staff Computer literacy required with a high level of ability using MS Office suite of programs JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Program Administration: 1. Assume responsibility for the daily operation of the preschool program 2. Act as liaison between the preschool board, preschool staff and preschool families 3. Act as liaison between the preschool and the church; attend weekly church staff meetings 4. Take an active role in planning preschool board meetings together with the Board chairperson 5. Provide community outreach, becoming involved in relevant organizations and educational programs 6. Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, including Safe Sanctuary 7. Maintain policies and procedures for program operation Program Development: 1. Remain informed about trends in early childhood education, special education and special needs 2. Encourage collaboration and team building among staff 3. Assist and support staff in creating and maintaining a developmentally appropriate environment 4. Submit proposed budget to Preschool Board by May 1 for next school year 2. Identify resources (fundraisers) to support budget responsibilities 3. Keep financial statements updated at all times, provide updates to Preschool Board, other church boards as requested Program Supervision: 1. Conduct monthly staff meetings 2. Evaluate teachers on an annual basis 3. Hire and dismiss employees in consultation with the board as needed. Ensure certifications and training of staff current 4. Supervise program curriculum 5. Maintain a visible presence to staff, students and preschool families 6. Ensure safe environment at all times, including conducting regular fire drills and safety training 7. Arrange for teachers to complete outside training annually as needed 8. Ensure all spaces used by preschool are kept clean and safe.
