This module introduces students to the individuals and ideas that have shaped the
way psychology has developed into the discipline it is at the present time. It
encourages students to debate the key issues permeating the discipline of psychology
during the last few centuries.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to

1. Understand the key concepts, theories and methods pertaining to this field of learning
2. Apply the findings of Psychology to selected topics in this area - e.g. philosophical beginnings;
structuralism and functionalism; schools of psychology
Understand the development of psychology as the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes.
