First Year Language Learning Diaries – some extracts
I like learning French. I never knew how to say my name or age before. I
like doing the listening exercises on the CD and I think the pronunciation
is cool and funny. I know a lot of French now that I didn’t before.
I can count to 20 in French. I am able to say my name, age, birthday and
zodiac sign and where I live in French. I find it hard to understand the CD.
I can understand Ms Grills sometimes. I can say the 12 months of the year in
French.
I started French 2 months ago. I’m finding it ok. I really like French. I can count from 1-20
with no bother. I’m finding the alphabet difficult but if I read over them each night I’m sure
I’ll get them. I can sort of understand the CD but I have to listen to it a couple of times. I
know how to introduce myself if I’m having a conversation.
Today I learned Halloween words in French. I found it easy enough. I like French. I liked
playing bingo! I can now say all the months, introduce myself, count up to 30 (so far) say
when my birthday is, say what my star sign is and lots more. I find listening to the CD a bit
difficult but it’s easy a second time.
I had already been exposed to French by visiting there almost every year. I could already count but
now I can speak about myself correctly! I’m not a big fan of the CD because sometimes I find it hard
to understand but I can understand Ms Grills when she talks. Most of the time it’s just pronouncing
the words that catches me out. Overall I love French class. I’m good at learning things quickly.
Well I really like learning French. I can count to 100 and found it a bit hard at first but
it’s getting a little easier. The alphabet I found hard I still kind of struggle with it. I
love playing the games it helps me learn a bit faster. On the first day I couldn’t speak
French at all but now I can introduce myself and someone else.
I am in French for two months and I can say the numbers 1-100, the alphabet and I can speak about
myself and say star signs, days of the week and months of the year. I find French not too difficult but
not too easy. I enjoy being able to speak French. It’s kinda hard to understand the CD because it has
a strong accent.
I’ve done French for a year in sixth class so some of the stuff is revision. I can tell people my
zodiac sign and I know loads of new vocabulary. I love the idea about the red vocab copy!
French is my favourite subject in school because it’s really fun to learn. I find tape work
easy but writing slightly more challenging. It’s because of all the accents and the masculine
and feminine words. I can count to 70 perfectly.
I can say hello in French. I can say some numbers in French so I still have to learn them
and also I can say some letters so I need to work on that thing. To speak in French is very
different to English, I find it kind of hard. (ST)
So far I love French. I can introduce myself in French and I couldn’t do that a while ago. I learned lots of
new things I didn’t know before........I know how to count from one to one hundred but I find it a bit hard
after number 20. I went to France a few years ago and loved the accent, that’s why I chose French. I find it
harder to listen to French than speak it.
I don’t find French too difficult. Now I think I can hold a bit of a conversation with Colm’s
girlfriend Katia. I find the classroom, numbers, months and days quite easy. I need to try
and pronounce them better. I think Halloween is going to be a challenge.
I found French hard at first but as I go on it gets easier and easier. One of the things I can
introduce myself and how I am and zodiac sign and birthday. I find writing down phone
numbers hard so I will work on that. I think with the vocab copy it is a bit easier than without
them. I can’t wait to learn about Christmas.
I have been learning French for two months and I can say my name, my age, my star sign. I can
count to 50 without looking. I need to learn how to count 50-100........I think I’m ok at French.
I can count to twenty. I know the months of the year, the days of the week. I think that I’ve
learnt a lot of French in the past two months. I find the pronouncing hard, if I read a French
paragraph I don’t know how to say it. I find French a lot easier than Chinese. (N)
