Writing Your Own Creation Story and Hero’s Journey
In order to show your understanding of the elements and ideas of how creation stories and the
hero’s journey reflect the value of a culture or civilization, you will embark on a journey to write
your own creation story. This story will be based on the type of government, technological
advances, trade and resources, etc of the civilization that you created in Mr. Norris’s History
class.
Parts of the assignment:
1. Brainstorm the elements from your civilization that will appear in your story. Consider
the following questions
 Creator: is there one creator or many? Is/are the creator(s) supreme or is power
shared? Is/are the creator(s) male, female, without gender. Benign or Malevolent?
Concerned or indifferent? Named or unnamed? Does the creator live in the sky or
the earth?
 Creation: is the creation accomplished by word, act, or both? Is it ordered or
haphazard? Is the creation a bloody struggle/warfare, or is it calm and reasoned? Is
it fast, slow, or is time not mentioned? Where does creation begin where does it
end up?
 Nature: How will you incorporate the resources that are valued to your culture and
why? What key landmarks from your map will be explained?
 Hero: What cultural values in government, technology and trade can be exemplified
through a hero’s journey
