Event Pre-registration session: Practical requirements for hospitals Registration Lectures commence Practical requirements Second year B Cur extended programme students are requested to attend a pre-registration session where important information with regard to the practical module will be discussed on Monday 27 January 2014 at 08:00-10:00 in the nursing science classroom, 507 0008. At this event, different companies will display some of the items that Nursing Science students will need for their Clinical practical module. Students will also be provided with the necessary information with regard to uniforms, textbooks, nursing kit, First Aid Course etc. Students will be able to purchase their nurse’s kit (Thermometer, Blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, nurse’s watch), Uniforms and Departmental T-shirts on this day. 2. Registration 1.1. Requirements for registration: 2. Registration will be on Monday, 27 January 2014 from 10:30 – 11:30 at the Indoor Sport Centre, Missionvale Campus. The following documents are required to be submitted on the day of registration: 2.1.1 For professional indemnity the student must pay directly to the chosen indemnity organisation e.g. DENOSA, HOSPERSA or SADNU. Students working in practical situations will be covered for third party claims by the Public Liability policy which NMMU pays annually. This cover is subject to certain conditions such as scope of practice, no cover in the event of negligence and incorrect practice. As with all liability cover these exclusions are standard; students should check with their lecturers regarding indemnity cover and procedures to follow in the event of incidents in the practical area. The Department of Nursing Science has made the decision to allow nursing students the option of joining a nurses’ professional body or not for indemnity cover, this is not compulsory. The choice is yours as to whether or not you join DENOSA, HOSPERSA or SADNU. Information will be obtained from the relevant lecturer. It is advisable to have additional indemnity cover. A completed medical report by a medical practitioner should be submitted (please find enclosed document) 2.1.2. Receipt of payment of registration fee. This is to be paid at the NMMU cashier’s office. Please quote your student number when paying this amount of R5700, 00. 2.1.4. Proof of first Hepatitis B vaccination should be provided. 2.1.5. 2.1.6. 2.1.7. Proof of payment for name badge (compulsory) to be provided. An amount of R50-00 must be paid into account number EA 92 4275, and the reference ‘name badge’ must be given. Proof of payment for Clinical Nursing skill guidelines to be provided. An amount of R200-00 must be paid into account number EB 564275. Copy of payment of uniform, which include a top and pants, to ‘Thanda Bantu Stores’ to be submitted at day of registration. The manufacturers can be contacted at 041- 451 3669 These must be handed in at registration. If the student does not have ALL of these documents or receipts, he/she will not be registered (See attached document). 3. Residence Students who do not reside in Port Elizabeth may apply for residence accommodation. If you have any queries in this regard, please phone (041) 504 3663/4263/4547. Kindly note that every student is personally responsible for the arrangements to be made with regard to accommodation prior to registration. Please take further note, that acceptance to the B Cur programme does not automatically let you qualify for accommodation. It is therefore the student’s responsibility to plan for their accommodation. Students wishing to reside in the Nurses Homes of the Provincial Hospitals in Port Elizabeth must negotiate with the Hospital Management as soon as possible, as places in the Nurses Homes are extremely sought after. 3.1 Additional expensed for Recess Accommodation Please note that during University Recess periods, BCur students are expected to perform their Clinical practical hours in various Healthcare Institutions. Please ensure to find out the necessary information regarding costs at the residence you choose to stay at, as this can have additional expense implications. 4. Financial Assistance: 2014 Students must secure their own finances for their studies. Students can contact NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme – 041 504 3182/1242/2514 as an alternative, or any bank for a student loan. 5. Purchasing of Textbooks Details regarding textbooks will be provided by Mrs S. Jardien-Baboo and Ms Z. Roets at the preregistration session on Monday 27th January 2014 in 507 0008 at 08:00-10:00. Please do not purchase any textbooks prior to the Orientation Programme. The estimated cost for textbooks for the first year is R3 500. 00. There is a possibility that some second-hand text books may be available. 6. Pregnancy Due to the nature of the clinical practice requirements of the B Cur degree programme, the firstyear female student must provide proof (medical certificate) that she is not pregnant prior to the commencement of the four-year degree programme. This is to safeguard the mother and unborn child from any harm, as well as safeguarding the university from any litigation proceedings in the event of any complications arising due to pregnancy. Students who are already pregnant at the commencement of their training may not continue with the programme. This includes students who are within the six (6) week period after delivery; unless a registered medical practitioner certifies that the student is fit to commence training. 7. Monies Payable Registration Fees: These must be paid on, or before the day of registration. All students are required to pay this amount in full prior to registration. Registration fees must be paid at the Cashier, NMMU, South Campus, before arriving at the Sports Centre to register TOTAL: R 5 700.00 Residence Fees: If you will be staying in the University Residence, you must pay this deposit at the Cashier on or before the day of registration.
