Camp Humane FAQs
1. What if our home has a different viewpoint
than the Aggieland Humane Society (AgHS)?
While we respect each family’s decision, part of our goal
is to promote what proactive, informed shelters agree is
best for most companion animals. To do so, we stand by
our Mission Statement:
The Aggieland Humane Society, formerly Brazos
Animal Shelter provides: humane shelter, care, and
placement for stray and unwanted animals;
promotes the human animal bond, and promotes
responsible pet ownership to enhance the quality of
life for the people and animals in our community.
2. In case of an emergency, how does my
parent/guardian contact me or a camp staff
member?
Parents/guardians can call the main phone number at
979-775-5755 and ask to have a camp counselor paged.
They also can email camp at
education@Aggielandhumane.org.
3. I have an animal allergy. Should I still attend
Camp Humane?
Camp Humane will experience hands on with different
animals all three days of camp. If your parent/guardian
believes you will suffer because of this, our camp may
not be you. It is up to the parent to decide if you can
experience camp. We are sorry but no refunds can be
made once camp is in session. If you take medication for
allergies, we will be happy to help as long as the
appropriate forms are completed.
4. Can I sign up with my sibling or friend?
Yes, but please remember that applications are
processed on a first-come, first-served basis. We cannot
hold any spots for potential campers without a
completed application and payment. If you have a
sibling or friend whom you would like to attend camp
with, we encourage all parties to send their applications
within the same time frame.
5. Is there before and after camp care?
We do not offer extended after care, but we do offer a
one hour extension before camp for a $25 fee. This fee
must be paid at the time of registration. If you child are
signed up for the extended hour, we ask that your
parents/guardians drop you off no sooner than 8:00 AM.
If you are not signed up for the extended early hour, you
may be dropped off at 9:00 AM. Camp ends at 3:00 PM.
6. What time should my parents/guardian pick
me up?
Camp runs Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 am
to 3 pm. If you are not signed up for the extended early
hour, please arrive no earlier than 9:00 am and plan to
be picked up at 3 pm. It is very important that campers
be picked up on time because we do not have facilities
nor staff to supervise children after camp is over.
7. Where does camp happen?
Camp takes place at the Aggieland Humane
Society (5359 Leonard Rd, Bryan, TX 77807) in the
Whitney Center.
8. Do I need to be there every day?
We hope so! Some camp activities will build on ones
from the previous day, so you might miss out on
something important if you miss too much time. If you
need to miss a day, just let us know.
9. What will we do during the week?
Animals, animals, animals! We’ll talk about many
different kinds of animals and how we relate to them in
our world. We will do a variety activities, crafts, projects,
and games. We will also have some interesting guest
speakers.
10. Will we get to meet any real animals?
Yes! You will certainly meet cats and dogs at camp as
well as potentially meeting rabbits, reptiles, and others.
You will get a chance to hang out with shelter animals
and give them some love.
11. What should I bring with me?
Bring a lunch Monday and Tuesday with a drink.
Wednesday’s lunch/drink will be provided. A healthy
late morning snack will be provided.
12. What should I wear?
You should wear comfortable clothes that you don’t
mind getting dirty. You never know when a dog will
drool on you or a cat will shed some fur on your shirt.
You must wear close-toed shoes every day and no tank
tops or sleeveless shirts. If you come to camp in opentoed shoes or in a tank top or sleeveless shirt, we will
have to call your parents/guardians to pick you up or
bring you the proper clothing. We really prefer that you
wear pants, but we do realize our Texas Summers are
hot! If you must wear shorts, please make sure they are
knee length. We have this policy as some animals like to
jump or crawl on people and they may inadvertently
scratch you on the leg.
13. What if I have other questions?
Please email them to education@Aggielandhumane.org.
