Monthly Book Report
Information
During the months of January and February you will be reading a
Historical Fiction Novel. Please choose a book and have it
approved by your teacher no later than Friday, January 17th.
The project for this month is to make a “Cereal Box”. The
directions for the project and the written portion of the
assignment are attached. Your teacher will be showing examples
and explaining the assignment in class.
Please be sure to follow the directions on this project and turn
in your very best work. I expect neatness, correct spelling, and
promptness. The project should be typed or neatly written in
your best penmanship.
A late project will be marked down one grade for each day it’s
turned in late.
Please explain this project to your parents and have them sign
the bottom portion of this page by Friday, January 17th. The book
report will be due on Monday, March 3rd.

Directions
Supplies:
1. Cereal Box (approx.. 10 ½ “ x 7 ½ “ is the preferred size)
Please NO Costco size boxes!
2. Paper to cover box (construction paper, scrapbooking paper)
3. Paper to draw, write, type upon
4. Markers, colored pencils, etc.
5. Glue/glue stick
6. Stickers/Scrapbooking supplies…get creative!
Directions:
1. Cover your box completely
2. Front side: Draw an illustration representing your book on
the front of the box. Please be creative…you may use images from
the internet/magazines, but please do not print an image of the
book cover and use that to cover the entire front side. Please
include your name on the front cover too…bottom right hand
corner.
2. Back side: Summarize your story. This summary should be three
to five paragraphs. Please include the setting (time and place),
main characters, problem, solution, and important details.
3. Right side: Your recommendation. Would you recommend this
book to a friend? Remember to explain why or why not. Include
your own commentary: What lessons did you learn from this book?
4. Left Side: Characters: Include a list and brief description
of the main characters of the story.
5. Please be creative!!! You may use scrapbooking materials,
stickers, images from the internet, images from
magazines/newspapers, crayons, markers, colored pencils,
construction paper…the ideas are limitless. You may also include
images/designs on all sides of the box. I can’t wait to see how
you will impress me
