BACKGROUND:
The Cathedral and Church Buildings Division (CCB) supports the
preservation and development of the Church of England’s 16,000
cathedrals and church buildings and their contents for worship, mission
and community engagement. The division provides support for the
statutory bodies, the Church Buildings Council and the Statutory Advisory
Committee on Closing Churches and the Cathedral Fabric Commission
for England.
The Archbishops’ Council has reviewed the many and varied demands
placed on the Cathedral and Church Buildings Division and taken the view
that the division should focus on activities only deliverable by the national
church. In 2010 the Church Buildings Council set out its policy on
churches casework advice and the division is now putting more effort into:

Publications on church buildings
Developing consistent, robust and effective processes for giving
advice for cathedrals and churches and on churches considered for
closure.
The post holder will provide excellent professional secretarial support to
the Director and, as appropriate, chairmen of the statutory bodies in an

energetic and fast moving division (campaigning, running competitions,
training and presentations as well as handling casework).
As Executive Assistant and Office Manager, he or she will need to take
responsibility for keeping a busy team functioning at full capacity.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Executive Assistant to the Director and support for Chairs of statutory bodies (80%)
 Diary management
 Handling correspondence
 Co-ordinating and booking travel arrangements
 Providing administrative support for Chairs of statutory bodies, Cathedral Fabric
Commission of England & Church Buildings Council
 Act as first line of contact for senior members of government, churches and heritage
related organisations
2. Officer Manager to the Division (20%)
 Management of Office systems including:
o Ordering stationery
o Printing facilities
o Filing
o Office furniture, equipment and space planning
 Providing clerical support for mailings
 Organising catering and other meeting arrangements
 Organising and co-ordinating divisional activities – staff meetings to Christmas parties
 Conference administration

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Starting Salary:
Salary starts at the probationary point of £24,309 per annum. On
satisfactory completion of the probationary period the salary will rise to
the standard point for the band £25,880 per annum.
Pension Contributions:
Non-clergy staff will be admitted to the Church Administrators Pension
Fund (CAPF, DC Section). Clergy already in the Church of England
Funded Pensions Scheme (CEFPS) will have the option of either
remaining in this scheme or joining the CAPF scheme.
There is no contracting – out certificate under the Pension Schemes Act
1993 in force for this employment in relation to the CAPF and CEFPS.
Both CAPF and CEFPS members are contracted-in to the State Second
Pension.
Hours of Duty:
Normal hours of work are 35 per week, Monday to Friday with an hour’s
unpaid break for lunch.

Annual Leave:
25 days paid leave per leave year. This is exclusive of public holidays and
additional holidays approved by your employer.
Season Ticket Loan:
Staff are eligible to apply for an interest-free travel season ticket loan for
their journey to and from work.
Contract:
The post is offered on an open-ended contract, subject to a six month
probationary period.
