Because this is an accredited event, each participant must register online prior to the workshop. During
the online registration process, participants may choose to pay by credit card or bring a check to the
workshop. The early bird registration cost to attend the workshop is $50 per individual if you register by
September 19, 2012. Standard registration fee of $75 applies after September 19th. No exceptions will
be permitted.

Please print your presentation handouts for this workshop in advance of attendance. Visit

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this one-day program, the participant will be able to:
 Identify Target:Stroke best practices.
 Discuss educational needs to achieve door-to-needle time goals.
 Describe how community affects successful stroke recovery within the context of young stroke
survivors.
 Describe the adverse impact of the absence of social support within the context of young stroke
survivors.
 Discuss process changes that improve stroke care and eliminate barriers when treating patients
in an acute comprehensive stroke center.
 Identify clinician roles, responsibilities, and justify how they enhance the acute stroke care of a
comprehensive stroke center.
 Define outcomes and how to disseminate these to EMS to demonstrate the effectiveness of a
comprehensive stroke center.
 Discuss current endovascular treatments available for acute ischemic stroke to include
aspiration devices and stent retrieval devices.
 Discuss CT perfusion and other advanced imaging in the decision making process of whether to
perform endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke.
 Discuss methods to work collaboratively with EMS responders to ensure patients symptomatic
of stroke are triaged, rapidly assessed, treated and transported.
 Discuss how to provide opportunities for EMS responders to participate in training regarding
stroke assessment and care.
 Develop a better understanding of current stroke care in South Carolina.

Continuing Medical Education Accreditation - Physicians
The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Heart Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1
Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in
the activity.
All persons who develop and/or control educational content in CME/CE activities sponsored by the
American Heart Association will disclose to the audience all financial relationships with any commercial

Continuing Medical Education Accreditation – Physician Assistants
AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1

assistants may receive a maximum of 6.25 hours of Category I credit for completing this program.
Continuing Education Accreditation - Nurses
The American Heart Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
The maximum number of hours awarded for this CE activity is 6.25 contact hours.
Accredited status does not imply endorsement by the American Heart Association or the American
Nurses Credentialing Center of any commercial products displayed in conjunction with an activity.
Steps for Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, learners must fully participate in the sessions. In addition,
learners must provide feedback that will be used for evaluative and outcomes measurement purposes.
Learners will check-in onsite for attendance verification purposes and will be required to provide
evaluative feedback before CME/CE credit can be claimed.
