ASAP Class Descriptions Term 4 2 Jan. 2013 – 8 Feb. 2013 Mondays Illustration - Each student will be able to pick from a list of words used to illustrate a story that best suits their imagination. Students will take the illustration from concept to presentation. Various techniques, such as watercolor, drawing, acrylic, and mixed media, will be used, with individual attention for each student in the technique of his/her choice. All illustrations will be presented at the end of the term if so desired. Students may also combine ideas to create one large illustration. Instructor: Abby Leach Tuesdays Public Art: Story Sculpture – Working together, students will create a story, then illustrate it with lifesized sculptures made from tape. This class involves both cooperative and individual work, and will result in one or more sculptural vignettes that will be displayed on city property. Instructor: Katie Avant Wednesday Pottery - This class will explore hand-building pottery techniques and glazing. Not the same old, same old-students will learn new ways to use the techniques they already know, as well as new techniques. Each student will complete several pieces during the classInstructors: Emily Revere and Abby Leach Thursday Island Voices Performance Choir- Sing! Move! This class presents an opportunity for Pleasure Island children to learn to sing and perform in our community. Island Voices helps children learn poise, confidence, and self-discipline while they learn about music and how to present themselves in public. IV is an ongoing class on Thursday afternoons. Instructor: Leeanne Stilley Thursday For 7th grade and up Carved Plaster Sculpture - Students will mold and create plaster panels that they will carve and mold in designs of their choosing, then color and embellish using encaustic tools and materials. Students will concentrate on exploration of form and movement in this class. Instructor: Katie Avant. Friday Theatre Troupe – The ASAP Theatre Troupe will present “Seussical Jr.” at the Orange Beach Arts Festival in March, 2013. Enrollment is closed until the spring session, which begins March 11. There will be a workshop for prospective members on 23 Feb. from 10:00 to 3:00 at the Arts Center—call to sign up. Instructors: Grace Stanton & Katy Price.
