Girl Scout Badge Programs are 2-hour workshops designed to get your troop outdoors and work on completing a badge together. Programs are led by experienced Audubon staff and volunteers. Each program costs $150 for a group of up to 10 people, $15 each additional person. All programs must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance. Call 469-526-1980 to schedule your group! No charge for chaperones – 1 adult for every 7 students. Girl Scout Badge Programs Available: Daisy Petals: Clover Petal—Using Resources Wisely: Learn all about recyclable items- cans, bottles, water, even food waste! Together we'll make a craft from recyclable materials to help our planet! Rosie Petal—Make the World a Better Place: Clean up the environment and make it healthier for wildlife! Together we'll make a craft from natural materials to help our planet! Brownies: Bugs: Study a live tarantula and a beetle farm, draw a bug poster, build your own butterfly, observe bugs in their natural environment, and take a bug hike. Hiker: Enjoy a nature hike in Dogwood Canyon, learn about proper hiking preparation and gear, practice observation and discover new findings in the woods. *New* Senses: What is the best way to explore the world around you? Come to Dogwood Canyon to explore how you can investigate the natural world using your different senses! Juniors: Animal Habitats: Learn about wild animals, investigate animal habitats in the forest of Dogwood Canyon, create an animal shelter, find out about endangered habitats, and make our forest a better place for animals by cleaning it up. Flowers: Who does not like flowers? Join us at Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center and grow a better understanding of flowers. We will search for flowers, observe flowers, smell the flowers and maybe even turn one of the scouts into a flower! Geocacher: Learn about the history of geocaching and how GPS technology became so readily available to the public. We will lead scouts through a fun engaging activity where they will learn the proper way to operate a handheld GPS unit, how to mark and name a cache, delete their tracks then try and find another groups cache. Camper: Join Dogwood Canyon Audubon as we set out on an overnight camping adventure at Cedar Ridge Preserve! This program, designed for both Juniors and Cadets, allows scouts to earn multiple badges while experiencing sleeping in a tent, roasting S’mores and enjoying a night hike. Cadettes: Trees: Visit the forest at Dogwood Canyon and find out about products that come from our native trees, sketch and label the parts of a tree, create a craft using natural items from trees, and learn how to help trees thrive. Trailblazer: Explore quick energy foods to pack for the trail, learn about the history of geocaching and how GPS technology became so readily available to the public. Learn how to mark and name a cache, delete their tracks and then try and find another group’s cache using a handheld GPS unit. Go on a hike to identify plants to stay away from, common animals and plants the girls will come in contact with, and how to leave no trace. Night Owl: The forest becomes a different world after dark. Nocturnal animals have adapted to their dark domain in many ways. We will explore nocturnal animal adaptations, explore the trail after dark, create our own nocturnal critter, and stare at the stars. As part of our Audubon Nature Nights camping program, we will be exploring the science, beauty, and stories behind the splendors of the sky! Adventurer: Come on an adventure as we challenge ourselves with our outdoor skills. As part of our Audubon Nature Nights camping program, senior Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to develop as a team, give back to their community and become more experienced in outdoor adventure skills. Water: Water, water everywhere! Make a splash with Dogwood Canyon as we dive into the fascinating world of water.
