The Malden High School crew team has raced on the Malden River since 2006. With the
support of Gentle Giant Rowing Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing
rowing to youth in underserved communities, the MHS rowing program rows as a MHS
varsity club sport in the spring and as GGRC Youth club in the fall. MHS crew is part of
the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association (MPSRA http://mpsra.org/)
governed by the rules of US Rowing. The team is not financially supported by the high
school and therefore needs to fundraise in order to support its growing membership.
The city of Malden is fortunate to have the Malden River as a natural resource within our
community. Having access to the river allows MHS the unique opportunity to include a
crew team. The Malden High School crew team annually hosts the Moose on the Malden,
a rowing regatta on the Malden River that last year included 12 teams from
Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Your support of The Malden High
School crew team and this regatta would help cover the $4000 it costs to run this event.
Sponsors of this race will be recognized in one of the following three ways: on the Moose
T-Shirt, prominently displayed on signage or in the event program.
This year’s Moose on the Malden Regatta is May 19, 2013. The beautiful sunny day we
had last year brought home two medals from the six rowing events we competed in.
With a full day of racing, the students were busy helping to run the regatta while
managing their own race schedules. In addition to the team doing a wonderful job
representing the youth of Malden, all visiting teams were complimentary toward both the
students and the event. The Moose on the Malden Regatta was a success that brought
both positive attention and several hundred visitors to the city of Malden. With your
support, we hope to make this event even better this year.
