How does energy relate to my favorite vacation?
Skiing in Vail!!!
Energies that are involved with skiing in Vail, Co.
Nuclear Energy - The nucleus of the atoms of the sun splitting, which I hoped not to see. I really wanted SNOW!!
Kinetic Energy - The motion of me Skiing swiftly down the mountain.
Potential Energy- The potential I had to move down the mountain ALOT faster.
Chemical Energy- Energy stored in the atoms and compounds from the Bagel and Starbucks Mocha I enjoyed earlier that day.
Thermal energy- the total energy of the particles within me which were not keeping me real warm.
Sound Energy- The particle vibrating as I moved down the mountain making a swishing noise with my skis.
Light Energy- The electrically charged particles produced by the sun that helped me navigate through the glades and bowls.
Energy Conversions
My superb skiing: Nuclear EnergyLight Energychemical Energypotential Energykinetic Energysound Energy
The Ski Lift:
Wind Energy Electric EnergyKinetic EnergySound Energy
Possible Energy Resources
Solar energy from the sun
Wind energy from the softly blowing breeze
Hydroelectricity from the melted snow
Thermal Energy Transfer
Radiation: Thermal energy traveling through space from the sun, attempting to heat up the air around me.
Convection: convection currents in the air cause the warm air to rise and the cold air to sink…. Making me feel soooo COLD!!
Conduction: The heat pack hidden in my gloves is directly transferring thermal energy to my hands. At least they will stay
warm.
My Favorite Vacation/Place Relates to Energy Project
Objectives:
Demonstrate your knowledge of the different types of energy and how they transfer.
Be able to explain how energy is involved in your everyday life.
 Attach your picture to a piece of paper, or paste in a document.

At the top of the paper put the heading; How does energy relate to my favorite place/vacation?
 Under the heading write a description of your favorite vacation or place.
 Beneath the picture put the heading: Energies. List all the energies that can be seen or interpreted by your picture. Next to
each energy, write the definition and an explanation of how it is represented in the picture.
 Write the heading: Energy Conversions. Write out the energy conversions that can be interpreted from your picture.
Make sure you write next to each one what the energy conversion is supposed to relate to.
 Write: Possible energy resources. List anything in your picture that could be used as an energy resource and explain how.
 Finally write: Thermal Energy Transfer. List any possible forms of Thermal energy transfers and explain how they are
related to your activity.
 Remember to include your name and period.
