The Relationship between Mother’s Baby Care Skill with Incident of Diaper Rash in Desa

ABSTRACT
Backgroud
The use of diaper for baby is the most practical way, effective and hygienic to
accommodate urine and feces from spreading during urination and defecation. But
actually, the baby's skin is not ready to adapt effect that caused by prolonged contact with
urine and feces when using diapers. Skin problem that may occurred for baby such as skin
rash known as dermatitis diapers or diaper rash. Diaper dermatitis is a skin problem in the
form of inflamed reddish spots with a hard scaly skin, nodules, moreover blistered skin
itching and sores. Baby's skin is relatively thin and has rudimentary protection functions,
that caused babies are more susceptible to infected skin disorders.Thus,to avoid diaper
rash, it is necessary to take care properly and appropriate.
Objective
The purpose of the research was to study relationship between mother’s baby care skill
with incident of diaper rash.
Methods
The research method was analytic cross sectional design. Samples of this research include
48 mothers and their baby aged 0-12 months using a diaper with total sampling
technique. Data collection was obtained by interview and observation. Data analysis used
Mann Whitney performed tests with significance level α = 0.05 with SPSS statistical
program.
Results
Results from 48 respondents, mother with good capability care baby skill 42 respondents
87.5% and had no diaper rash. Mother with no capability care baby skill 8 respondents
16.7% and 6 of them had diaper rash 12.5%. Mann Whitney statistical test analysed 0.041
coefficient α < 0.05, showed H0 rejected and H1 accepted.
Conclusion
Most of the mother have good capability care baby skill so there is little incident of diaper
rash in Desa Ngumpul, Jogoroto, Kab. Jombang.
