COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TEXTBOOKS PUBLISHED BY NCE, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHERS The model to evaluate these textbooks was CIPP Model of Stuffle Beam which stands for Content, Input, Process and Product, Evaluation Technique. CIPP Model NCE National International Remarks Content: a. Subject Matter b. Text Density c. Content Approach d. Keywords e. Validity f. Reliability g. Aptness h. Level of text i. Font style, size, colour. j. Book size, title page, presentation, Ease to hold and carry, Illustration. NCE text is culturally valid, relevant, teaching language and structure, keywords approach with age-appropriate density and difficulty level. Highly creative approaches are made part of all the skills across the text books. Very practical and user-friendly size of textbooks that get covered in proper time encouraging students to get hands on learning through learning by doing. Phonics-based and skill-based approaches are being followed. Observation, imagination, prethinking, mental arithmetic and productivity is developed while students own work is always appreciated. Subject-appropriate approach is being followed in NCE Textbooks. National Publishers text is culturally valid but not reliable to the extent of using the same language and techniques used across diverse subjects. An effort is made to use Blooms Taxonomy approach across all subjects that at the cost of appropriateness or teach ability. No keywords technique to make it targetoriented for the child to learn and build his/her knowledge. No creativity is generated from the teacher-centered activities given in the books. Letter-based and materialknowledge-based approach. Same approach is followed in the entire subjects. NO TEACHING TECHNIQUE/TOOL NO COMPETENCY DEFINED International Publishers’ texts are mostly borrowed from the classics around the world undermining cultural validity, age-levelappropriateness, difficult to teach and cover the difficult text with a very difficult exercise that cannot be done independently by the student. Book and text size is lengthy enough that no subject can be covered 100% if properly taught. Rote learning is encouraging by giving short questions requiring long answers. The book size is bigger than the teaching and learning capacity of the students. -NO TEACHING TECHNIQUE/TOOL -NO COMPETENCY DEFINED Textbooks are designed to provide an opportunity for a better, friendly, easy and interesting learning in the class where the child loves to work independently in the textbooks after few weeks of guidance by the teacher. NCE has given independent learning system that encourages skillbuilding and independence of the student.
