SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ROLE PROFILE TITLE : Medical Team Leader, Ebola Treatment Centre TEAM/PROGRAMME: Health LOCATION: Freetown GRADE: TBC CONTRACT LENGTH: TBC CHILD SAFEGUARDING : Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff. ROLE PURPOSE: The Medical Team Leader is responsible for the clinical management of the centre and the clinical staff working in the unit (approx. 20 international and 50 national including doctors, nurses and para-medical staff). Responsible for setting and ensuring the parameters of clinical care and infection control are adhered to. The Medical Team Leader will work very closely with the water, sanitation and hygiene management team to ensure that all hygiene, cleaning and waste management protocols are adhered to. He/She together with the medical coordinator is responsible for the integration of the clinical staff with support services, outreach and ambulance service. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Health Advisor All clinical staff directly reporting to this post: Doctors in Charge, Head Nurses, Laboratory Manager, Pharmacy Manager KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Ensure clinical care protocols are in place Clinical supervision of all doctors and nurses. Set clear protocols and standards of clinical care, and recommend changes to these subject to staff patient ratio and status of patients. Support staff conducting triage to take clinical decisions as needed. Ensure unit is correctly staffed, manage roster for Doctors and Nurses. Implement an effective clinical supervision systems for doctors and nurses. Monitor the physical and mental well being of centre staff. Work closely with the Laboratory Manager to ensure that samples are collected and transmitted correctly, and results are received, actioned and documented. Work closely with Pharmacy Manager to ensure that medical stocks are properly accounted for and orders for resupply appropriate and timely. Review patient and centre performance data with clinical staff to take clinical decisions. Lead daily briefs and weekly review meetings with the medical and non medical staff, forward key issues to Health Adviser and ensure clinical team are informed of key programme issues and activities and wider context. Ensures clinical staff are recruited, trained orientated correctly and practising appropriately. Ensures an effective clinical supervision systems for doctors and nurses. Technical management of clinical staff and monitors their physical and mental well being.. Together with the Medical Coordinator decide on Medical Evacuation. Specialisation and at least 5 years of post graduate clinical experience in infectious diseases or infection control. Registered with own country general medical council. Previous experience in infectious disease control. Previous experience working within health facilities in low income countries. Previous experience of clinical team management Strong communication skills. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary, multi cultural team. Ability to motivate and support team in stressful situations. Strong reporting skills. Excellent fluency in English including clinical terminology. Desirable Previous experience of working on haemorrhagic fever management.
