PACER Workshops for Nova Parents
Responding to Challenging Behaviors at School, at Home, and in the Community
Children with challenging behaviors are often misunderstood. This workshop will help parents
identify and respond to behaviors that may indicate mental health concerns; navigate school and
community supports and services; and learn effective parent advocacy skills.
July 22nd, 6:30-8:30pm
Special Education and Charter Schools
Parents of children with disabilities who attend a charter school will learn more about
parent/student rights, services, resources, and ways to resolve disagreements.
August 6th, 6:30-8:30 (Minneapolis)
10 Topics to Help Your Child Succeed in Special Education
Parents who participate in this interactive workshop will learn about 10 important areas of focus
in special education, and acquire skills and knowledge they can use to help their children with
disabilities be more successful.
August 18th, 6:30-8:30 (Anoka)
The ABC’s of the IEP: A Guide for Minnesota Parents to the IEP
This workshop will help parents understand how to use the IEP to benefit their child. Presenters
will use the PACER booklet, “Guide for Minnesota Parents to the IEP,” to help participants
understand how each required part of the IEP can be developed to meet the child’s needs.
August 20th, 6:30-9pm (Pacer)
Ready for Life After High School? Employment and Support Strategies for Youth
with Disabilities
Planning for employment is an important step in preparing your young adult with a disability
for life after high school. This new workshop will provide information on career exploration and
planning, along with strategies for finding and keeping a job. Parents will gain knowledge about
how to help prepare their youth for employment and hear from agencies that provide
employment services and supports. Parents of students in 9th grade and beyond are encouraged
to attend.
