Proposal for establishing new partnerships for students' mobility December 8 2014 "Europe in Exchange" project is an AEGEE-Europe projects and aims to bring all the students and young people in Europe and neighbouring countries the possibility to take part in mobility programmes. www.aegee-sofia.org www.aegee.org www.projects.aegee.org/eie Proposal by AEGEE-x Purpose of the proposal The purpose of this proposal is to establish new partnerships for mobility with other higher education institutions from EU and neighbor countries, diversifying the possibilities for incoming and outgoing students. This action is part of the activities of Europe in Exchange, European project of AEGEEEurope. What is the proposal of new partnerships about? Studying, working or volunteering abroad offers a huge range of benefits for the students taking part in them, increasing their intercultural awareness, sense of initiative and improving their employability, as businesses value the wide experience of those who have spent time abroad. Also the participating institutions gain in the process, increasing their international links and learning from other institutions. However, many students miss this life changing opportunity because there are institutions which do not participate in students mobility. There are countries and universities where partnerships are very few, and only a limited amount of students can go on exchange. Europe in Exchange encourages and supports universities to establish new partnerships with foreign Institutions in order to: increase the number of the incoming exchange students and open more positions & placements increase the number of the outgoing exchange students include in the current Erasmus map countries in the EU Neighbourhood Policy and the EuroMed countries What can this proposal offer to my institution? Europe in Exchange project, in cooperation with many different local organizations of AEGEE-Europe, is organizing a campaign in order to establish new partnerships for students' mobility. With this purpose, we are contacting different universities and other Higher Education institutions in the EU and neighborhood countries (Eastern Europe, Western Balkans and South Mediterranean countries). AEGEE is present in all European continent with 200 local students' associations, all of them in connection with at least one higher education institution. Moreover, AEGEE has partnerships with many other European students associations, which gives us an easy and fast access to a vast amount of Higher Education institutions all around Europe. This network can make much easier the www.aegee-sofia.org www.aegee.org www.projects.aegee.org/eie work to universities which want to establish new partnerships, as we can facilitate the creation of contacts. In order to find higher education institutions in South Mediterranean and other Arab countries, we are collaborating with EuroArab project, another European project of AEGEE-Europe, aiming to establish and maintain a sustainable relationship between the European and Arab youth. AEGEE-xxx [Short description of your local] AEGEE-Europe AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l’Europe / European Students’ Forum) is a European student organisation that promotes cooperation, communication and integration amongst young people in Europe. AEGEE counts with 13 000 members, active in more than 200 university cities in 40 European countries. It provides a platform for young people to work together on cross border activities such as conferences, seminars, exchanges, training courses, Summer Universities, Case Study trips and Working Group meetings. The association aims to promote, through the student world, the European idea amongst young people in Europe. Thus AEGEE strives to foster European integration, democracy, human rights, tolerance, cross-border co-operation, mobility and a European dimension in education. AEGEE has participated very actively in the field of students’ mobility along all its history. One of AEGEE’s most well-known achievements is the effective lobbying for the creation of the Erasmus programme in 1987. Another example is the “Socrates on the Move” project, which promoted Socrates program, developed in 2001 in collaboration with ESN (Erasmus Student Network) and ESIB (The National Unions of Students in Europe, now European Students’ Union). www.aegee-sofia.org www.aegee.org www.projects.aegee.org/eie About ‘Europe in Exchange’ Europe in Exchange (EiE) is an AEGEE-Europe project which aims to bring to all students and young people in Europe and neighbouring countries the possibility to take part in mobility programmes. The project gets in contact with different stakeholders working or interested in mobility of students, as higher education institutions, students organizations, policy makers and the own students; in order to collaborate with them to increase the mobility possibilities and to facilitate the access to them. The project has five objectives: Make students better informed about the existing mobility programmes and possibilities and its benefits. Advocate for an adequate structure and funding for mobility of students and young people, both in the EU and its neighbouring countries. Increase the number of destinations and possibilities for mobility in universities inside and outside the current Erasmus zone. Support students’ organizations to reduce obstacles that students face, as the language barrier, to benefit from mobility programmes. Support AEGEE locals to benefit in their actions connected with our aim. www.aegee-sofia.org www.aegee.org www.projects.aegee.org/eie
