History:
This Scholarship commemorates the life of Dr. Samuel Priest Rose, who was born July 16,
1955 and died September 19, 1994. He was graduated from Yale University in 1977 and
earned his Ph.D. at the University of Denver in Developmental Psychology in 1990. Dr. Rose
taught at the University of Colorado Denver and was popular with students in his “Psychology
of the Self” course for which he received excellent evaluations and comments. He was coauthor with his mentor, Dr. Kurt W. Fischer, of two articles and a book, with Dr. Fischer
publishing additional aspects of their work since Dr. Rose’s death. Dr. Rose also presented
papers at national and international meetings of the American Psychological Association,
American Public Health Association, and the Society for Research in Child Development. His
brilliant mind, compassionate heart, playful humor, and searching spirituality illuminated our
lives too briefly.
Goal of this scholarship program: To discover and reward some of the best and most
