Flag Football COURSE SYLLABUS Norman Killion Note: On most class days, students will engage in mock scrimmages and actual games as time and weather permits; come to class prepared for physical activity; dress for the weather Week 1 Introduction to the course and the instructor. Lecture, discussion, and demonstrations of Flag Football – Facilities & Equipment, General Rules, Refereeing Opportunities, Specific Defensive Rules Lecture, discussion, demonstrations, and drills/skills specific to DEFENSE – man to man and zones Week 2 Lecture, discussion, & demonstrations of Flag Football – Specific offensive rules Do’s and Don’ts of Flag Football Lecture, discussion, demonstrations, and drills/skills of the Flag Football running game Drills and skills specific to quarterbacking (passing/running), centering(snapping), and pass catching Attacking zone defenses with passing concepts Kick Off and kick off receiving rules in Flag Football Week 3 Lecture, discussion, demonstrations, and drills of Flag Football - Offense Passing & catching fundamentals & techniques. Introduce concepts of the Flag Football passing game versus zone defenses Drills/skills of the passing game relating to the attack of zone defenses. Punt and punt receiving rules in Flag Football Week 4 Introduce concepts of the Flag Football passing game versus man to man defense Offensive and defensive concepts used in the RED ZONE. Drills/skills specific to RED ZONE offense and defense Kick Off, Kick Off return, Punt, and Punt Return Scrimmages Situational Flag Football scenarios – offense/defense (example: third and 10+ yards) ASSIGNMENT: Two Minute Offense/Stopping the Clock Week 5 Discuss FINAL EXAM (written/practical) Creating mismatches and advantages versus defenses and offenses Using Flag Football rules to achieve an advantage Week 6 FINAL EXAM – written Course & Instructor Evaluations FINAL EXAM –practical
