Speaker Bios William B. Carroll DDS, Captain DC, USN Ret: Dr. Carroll is an Associate Professor of Dentistry at the College of Dental Medicine at Roseman University of Health Sciences. A retired Navy Dental Officer with over 30 years of active duty experience, his last position was as the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Dental Officer. Prior to that he was the Fleet Dental Officer for the US Pacific Fleet. He was also the Director of the General Practice Residency Program at Naval Medical Center San Diego for over 5 years. He attended the University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at the Naval Dental School, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Alexander P. Faletti, Major MI, US Army Ret: Alex is the President and Owner of two Corporations: Triple-Strand LLC, an Intelligence and Security Corporation, and Faletti Construction LLC, which specializes in the construction of secure work areas and the hardening of public and private concerns. A retired Army Officer, specializing in Human Intelligence and Counterintelligence, Alex served as the Operations Officer over All Theatre-level Interrogation in Iraq. He attended USC where he studied Mathematics, and also attended Graduate school at BYU in English Literature and The National Intelligence University in Strategic Intelligence. Maria Fruin RN, BSN, MSN: Ms. Fruin has worked as a nurse at the Veterans Administration (VA) for the past 26 years. She currently manage a multidisciplinary team that cares for Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) Veterans. Ms. Fruin assures that all returning combat Veterans are aware of their benefits, are able to access their benefits; and if they encounter any barriers to care, to advocate on their behalf. Ms. Fruin assess all returning Veterans for Care Management needs both physiological and psychological. She also provides briefings for military and civilian agencies. Amber A. Martinson, PhD: Dr. Martinson is currently completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Health/Integrated Care at the Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS). She is a graduate of the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Maine, having also completed her predoctoral internship at the VASLCHCS. Her research and clinical interests include sexual trauma, PTSD, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis functioning. As a promising researcher in training, Dr. Martinson has been the recipient of the Student Researcher Award by the Women’s Issues in Behavior Therapy Special Interest Group of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), among various other honors throughout her career. Thus far, she has a total of 33 research presentations at national conferences and 10 scholarly publications. Jennifer Romesser, PsyD: Jennifer Romesser is a clinical psychologist at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center. She works on both the Polytrauma team and the Post Traumatic Stress disorder team. She provides evaluation and treatment services for recently deployed Service Members and Veterans with PTSD and TBI. She is an associate professor in the University of Utah’s Graduate School of Clinical Psychology Program as well as their Counseling Psychology Program. Dr. Romesser is actively involved in research; she is the Site Investigator on a current study looking at the effectiveness of Rivastigmine on cognitive functioning in Veterans with a history of brain injury. She is also recently published in the area of mild TBI, PTSD and pain. Captain David S. Wood, Ph.D.: Dr. Wood currently serves as group clinical psychologist for the Utah National Guard. As a commissioned behavioral health officer, he functions as a unit member of the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and consults with the Office of the State Surgeon of the Utah National Guard on the behavioral health status of deployed soldiers. He is also part of the Utah National Guard Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) team. Dr. Wood holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Arizona State University and a master degree in counseling psychology from Central Washington University. He completed his pre-doctoral psychology internship in clinical psychology at the VA Medical Center and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, both in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
