Humphers seconded the motion. Voting was unanimous to approve the minutes.
President’s Report
a. Membership Contest: For each person a PTA member signs up, he or she will have his or her
name put into a drawing for free mani/pedi. The winner will be announced at our December
PTA meeting (Thursday, December 13th at 11:45 AM), and the winner does not need to be
present to win. Membership forms are located in the PTA basket in the teacher workroom
behind the office or from me.
b. If you don’t already have a membership card, please pick one up or contact Teresa to get one,
and activate it ASAP for great coupons.
c. The goal for Share Your Shelf this year was 1,500 food items to be donated to the Christmas
Store, and the goal was exceeded. Committee Co-chair Vicki Hopkins reported that she saw
children bringing bags of food to donate.
d. The last week of school before the Christmas break (Dec. 17th-20th), PTA will be holding a
Holiday Shoppe at Roosevelt. This is a place where children will be able to buy very reasonably
priced and fun presents for family, teachers, and friends. The majority of the items cost less than
$2. You’ll be receiving more information about this soon. This was a suggestion a few parents
made at the end of last year, and we’re really excited for this holiday shoppe next month.
Treasurer’s Report
a. We paid state and national PTA dues in October.
b. Our taxes were completed and filed.
c. The Fifth Grade Yard Sale brought in $806.
Committee Reports (Many of these reports are at the end of the minutes.)
a. Holiday Helpers (Diane Nutt): Diane and Libby Eshelman are working with Mrs. McWhorter
on this project. A sign-up list will be going out in the coming weeks so that those who wish to
help will be able to.
b. Homeroom and Volunteer Coordinators (Kim Hill): As of November 2nd, 549 volunteer hours
have been logged. Although this number is impressive, we’re certain it’s very low. Kim suggests
that when we sign in to volunteer, we estimate how long we will be there and record the hours
then. Otherwise, please total hours when you sign out. It is important for the school to have a
record of volunteer hours!
c. Rough Rider Rally (Becky Humphers): Rally will be held Thursday, November 15th inside the
school, 5:30-7:30 PM. There are still slots available for parents to volunteer to help with games.
If you haven’t signed up and are interested, here’s the link to use:

d. Teacher Appreciation (Lisa Dionisio): Lisa has planned a dinner for teachers for Thursday after
school prior to parent-teacher conferences. She is giving each teacher a Sonic gift card for his or
her birthday and a birthday card. She gave each teacher and staff member a coupon for a free
drink at Sonic for Halloween (courtesy of Sonic). She is working on something for
Thanksgiving.

a. The next PTA meeting will be held in the Roosevelt library on Thursday, December 13th at 11:45

funding in Oklahoma. Brook Meiller from NPS will speak at our January meeting about
Common Core State Standards.
b. There’s a striped binder in the workroom by the fax machine that contains one or two
information pages about each teacher for gift ideas. The pages are filed alphabetically by the
teacher’s last name.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:39 PM.
Directory (Cary Joy Hans)
The district has changed the way our directory can be compiled as of the end of August this year. As you may
remember, during enrollment confirmation you filled out a PTA Information/Directory Confirmation form
listing your household's address, telephone numbers and e-mails. We were told in September that any
information that the PTA compiled would not be able to be used. At the beginning of October, the district
provided us with a list of students from their records, and we are only allowed to print the information they
gave us. A large amount of families have been notified that their student's enrollment form from the front office
did not give permission to have their household/student's information published. Most of these families gave
the PTA permission to print provided information in the directory, but if they did not check that permission
box in the official enrollment form through the school, once again we cannot publish it. Families have been
correcting this by going to the school office and letting Dawn Denton help them make the change to their
student's records. This has taken quite some time to filter through. This is the last week to make any changes,
and then I will have a FINAL list of students to insert into the directory. After that, Dawn will have to approve
the copy ready material, and then off to the printer!! Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Health Screeings (Angela Wright and Jennifer Elliott)
We appreciate the NPS Nurses that come to our school every year to organize the health screenings for our
students. This all day event would not be possible without the wonderful parent volunteers! Thank you to all
the parents that were able to help, and a special thank you to Mrs. Dean, Mr. Menzie and Mrs. Hatfield!
Homeroom Coordinators and Volunteers (Kim Hill and Melissa Scaramucci)
Through November 2nd 549 hours have been logged. It would be higher if people would estimate how much
time they think they will be there when they first sign in as many forget to sign out or write down the hours
they volunteered and then I am not able to include any time at all. I know there are Watch Dogs that volunteer
and I haven't seen very many designated as such either.
Holiday Helpers (Libby Eshelman and Diane Nutt)
This is an outreach effort to help local families provide Christmas for their children. Last year we had 6 families
including 20 kids. We are working hard this year to get each of the children at least that one special request
plus some needs they may have like clothes, etc. We hope to have wish lists back from the families immediately
following Thanksgiving. Gifts can be purchased any time, but specific items will be listed on sign-up genius as
soon as we can after Thanksgiving. Gifts must be new. Deadline for donations will be Monday, December 17th. If
anyone would like to help sort or transport donations please contact Libby Eshelman (esh6@att.net) or Diane
Nutt (Dianenutt@yahoo.com)
Mileage Club (Ashley Waslo)
Mileage Club has had a great fall! The students have done a super job of turning in their permission slips and
remembering to sign in and out each Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Mileage Cub will be stopping
temporarily at the end of November, due to the coming winter weather. We will pick back up after Spring
2
Break. T-shirt orders have been collected, and the t-shirts will be delivered in mid-November. As of Friday,
November 2nd 156 students have turned in 247 mileage punch cards for a total of 1235 miles walked/run this fall
already! Congratulations Roosevelt students—this is an amazing accomplishment! Any questions about
Mileage Club, please contact Ashley Deming-Waslo (waslo@sbcglobal.net).
My School’s Cool (Melissa Dawson)
The contest began October 1st, and no receipts have been turned in for Roosevelt yet. Please turn in all of your
receipts from everything you buy at any store at Sooner Mall! More information will be available soon.
Read Y’all Reading Olympics (Amy Laubach)



The Reading Olympics will run through April 18th.
The Storybook Café will be held Thursday of this week (November 8th) in conjunction with ParentTeacher Conferences. It will be held in the cafeteria this year, and only children and volunteers will be
allowed in the café.
We will host a book exchange this year so start collecting books at home that your children are ready to
part with. If anyone has suggestions, email them to Amy Laubach.
Red Ribbon Week (Vicki Hopkins and Angela Wright)
Thank you to all the parents who volunteered with this special week! A special thank you to Mrs. McWhorter
for all her hard work and organization. We appreciate the Norman Police Officers who made time to visit our
school and provided red ribbon week education to our students! And a HUGE thank you to Norman Regional
Hospital for their grant which made the purchase of the red ribbon week bracelets possible! Mrs. McWhorter
had the students make a thank you poster for the hospital.

All Visual Art and Photography entries from this year’s Reflection Contest will be displayed at Local’s art
gallery on Tuesday, December 4th. Eat and shop at the Local that day and the school will get 10% of the total
sales!

home in Thursday folder with more information. Your teacher will also be emailing you with details.

Rough Rider Run (Bridget Furnish, Karla Hanson, and Jamie Mincher)
The Run committee is pleased to report a very successful run day. We had numerous parents who volunteered
their time throughout the day, some the entire day. All that was coordinated went smoothly including the DJ,
snow cone sales, Snack table, Lap counters, set-up, and clean-up. The week following the Run, the Run/Rally
committee coordinated efforts to encourage pledges to be turned in, we extended the due date by one day, had
parent/student volunteers hold signs during daily drop off and pick up at both entrances to school. On
November 1st, the Run committee presented awards to students, faculty and parents for various categories
included in this year’s Run. In closing, the Run committee would like to thank the following PTA members and
3
parents: Becky Humphers and Michelle Camp for collecting lap cards and sending home pledge envelopes the
day of the run, Erin Williford for coordinating the wonderful volunteers who helped with the snack tables,
Heather Hack and Laura Kadechuk for putting together all of the lap counter volunteers for the day. A special
thank-you to parent volunteer Mr. Kevin Snode who was the first volunteer to show up that morning and last
to leave. We are so grateful for his time and willingness to do whatever we needed. A huge thank you to
Nichole Patton for her successful efforts in obtaining all the prizes for the awards assembly. Many thanks to
Jennifer McCarty for putting together what has been a highly complimented Run T-shirt this year. We will be
placing a second order for those parents who weren’t able to get their order in on the first round. Yumi
and Jeff Davis for keeping the PTA website updated with all important information. Ashley Waslo and the
popcorn committee for popping all the popcorn needed for give-away. Also to Republic Bank for their generous
water donation again this year. Lastly, to Mrs. Dixon and Mrs. Watson along with Teresa Bell for assisting
with communication between the Run committee and the staff, students, and families of Roosevelt. The
Roosevelt Rough Rider Run is an enormous undertaking and would not be possible to manage without the
help of administration, staff and the outstanding parent volunteers whom we were so fortunate to have
working along with us all the way to the finish line. Every phone call, email, and effort, big and small, did not go
unnoticed, and we thank you for giving your time and talents to make this year’s Run a fantastic time!
Scholar Recognition (Sandy Minty and Darlene King)
The dog tags for scholars for the first quarter will be presented Thursday, November 8th at Scholar Recognition
in Rendezvous. Scholars are students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade who received a GPA of 3.5-3.9 receive a silver dog
tag. Students who achieve a 4.0 receive a maroon dog tag. Also, Roosevelt Scholar yard signs will be sold for
$6.00 as parents leave or through the front office. First speaker of the year will be OU women’s basketball
coach, Sherri Coales.

exceeded our goal of 1500 items!!!! What an amazing school we have!
