The Laser Liposuction procedure at Los Angeles Smart Lipo Center is easier and safer than traditional
liposuction. First, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. Then, a laser is used to gently melt the fat
directly under the skin and to encourage skin-tightening. One or two small incisions are then placed in the
upper and lower abdomen to begin the suctioning process. The cannula used to remove the fat is only
about 3mm wide – slow, gentle movements mean less pain, less bruising, and a rapid recovery time for
patients.
 This permanent procedure produces noticeable results, leaving you with a more sculpted, flatter
abdomen and a more defined waist.

Why choose abdominal SmartLipo?
Both men and women can benefit from abdominal SmartLipo. Since moderate amounts of fat can be
removed, patients will see a more defined waist and smaller stomach circumference. Men can regain

What is the procedure like?
SmartLipo is performed in the office under local anesthesia – patients remain awake and alert during the
entire procedure. First, the skin is numbed and one or two small incisions are placed on the upper and
lower abdomen. Using gentle suction, excess fat is removed with a vibrating cannula, or straw-like
instrument. The cannula itself is 3mm – about the size of a cooked spaghetti noodle – and leaves no
unsightly scars. The procedure lasts for about two hours, and patients walk out of the office with their new,
sculpted physiques.
Am I a good candidate for abdominal SmartLipo?
Patients in good health with excess fat of the abdomen and stomach can benefit from Laser Liposuction.
Anyone who has fatty deposits under the abdominal muscle – usually patients with barrel-shaped waists –
may not be good candidates for abdominal SmartLipo. Abdominal SmartLipo can only reduce the fatty layer
that rests on top of the stomach muscles.
Will abdominal SmartLipo give me a 6-pack?
Maybe. Laser Liposuction is designed to remove fat, so abdominal SmartLipo will remove the fatty layer to
reveal the muscles underneath. The shape of your muscles determines the shape of your stomach: if you
have 6-pack muscles, you’ll have 6-pack abs. Flat muscles produce flat stomachs, but most people have
small imperfections in the muscles that will persist after having Liposculpture.
Will I have any scars or sagging skin?
SmartLipo of the abdomen leaves only one or two small puncture sites on the upper and lower stomach,
each only about 3mm wide. Scarring does not usually occur, however, any resulting scars will normally
fade into the natural color of the skin.
Anyone under the age of 60 with good skin tone will generally not notice any sagging skin – the Laser
Liposuction procedure at Los Angeles Smart Lipo Center is specifically designed to promote skin-tightening
effects as the fat is removed. Older patients or those who have lost a considerable amount of weight may
still experience sagging or lax skin and may wish to consider a tummy tuck procedure.
What are the post-op procedures?
Most patients experience only mild discomfort after the procedure. You will be most likely be able to walk
immediately after, enjoy light to medium activities, and return to work in a day or two. Some, but not all,
patients will experience mild bruising. A compression garment similar to an Ace bandage will be worn
around the waist for about 2 weeks or as directed by the doctor.
Some patients may experience swelling of the stomach after the procedure. Results can be seen within a
few days with final results within a few months. While it does take a while for the swelling to go down, there
is minimal to no pain involved. With Smart Lipo of the abdomen, there are no stitches and the tiny puncture
wounds will naturally close within about two days – the most patients experience only mild soreness, similar
to the muscle ache that occurs after strenuous exercise.
Will this procedure affect future pregnancies?
No. Abdominal SmartLipo removes only the fatty deposits from the stomach and will not affect your
muscles, organs, or ability to have children.
