Spring Orientation 2016
January 11th to January 13th
Deadline for Submitting Proposal: Friday, October 23, 2015
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Faculty Development Committee is accepting proposals for Spring Orientation 2016, which
will take place from Monday, January 11th through Wednesday, January 13th. The focus for
Orientation Week will be:
STUDENT PERSISTENCE, SUCCESS AND ACADMIC EXCELLENCE:
Best Practices that Bring About Academic, Career and Personal Success
We encourage everyone to submit a proposal for a workshop session during Orientation Week.
There are many creative ways to achieve our goals of student success and academic excellent.
We welcome your ideas!
Topic Areas
While program topics maybe more exact, we ask that you categorize your presentation into one
of the following Strategic Plan 2013-2017 goals or institutional initiatives:

include free and customizable textbooks that can be adopted for college courses.
In this session, we will demonstrate how faculty teaching one course – COL 108
The College Experience – discovered, adapted, adopted, and are using an OER
textbook effectively. We will also discuss with session participants these seven
questions:
1. What is an OER textbook?
2. How do OER textbooks work?
3. Who's creating OER textbooks ?
4. Why are OER textbooks significant?
5. What are the downsides of using OER textbooks?
6. Where is the development of OER textbooks going?
7. What are the implications of using OER textbooks for teaching and
