Payment for Practice Learning
Payment Levels
The NHS Business Services Authority decides on the rates of payment for agencies.
The daily placement fee includes all aspects of the placement, including the provision of a Practice Educator. If an OffSite Practice Educator is appointed by the University, the Lower daily payment rates will be reduced by £14 per day to
enable the University to pay the Off-Site Practice Educator directly.
All Practice Educators appointed by Anglia Ruskin University are paid £14 per day. If an agency appoints their own
Practice Educator it is up to agency and Practice Educator to agree on the payment levels and methods of payment.
All payments are inclusive of VAT.

Agreement
Placement Providers and Practice Educators
Placement providers undertake, as their part of the agreement, to provide a placement, which will enable the student
to meet the assessment requirements at the appropriate level.
The tasks involved, which will include provision of reports, direct observation of practice, regular-recorded supervision,
service user feedback and appropriate practice experience, are detailed in the Handbook provided by the University
to students, on-site supervisors and Practice Educators. If problems should arise within the placement, providers are
advised that the procedures outlined within these documents should be followed.
It is expected that everyone who assesses, supervises or provides a social work placement makes every effort to attend
the relevant workshops. It is also expected that all those engaged in the process of practice learning are willing to take
an active involvement in the social work course at Anglia Ruskin University.
Students are subject to all the agency and University policies and procedures (e.g. Discipline, Grievance and Complaints
Procedures, Equality and Diversity policies, Personal Harassment Policies, Health and Safety, Whistle blowing, Smoking
etc.). When requested placement providers will need to provide the University with evidence demonstrating that they
can offer students a safe and supportive environment, including reference to health and safety policies and relevant
insurance.
Practice Educators
All Practice Educators will need to meet the requirements set out by The College of Social Work Practice Educator
Professional standards. Further information can be found at;
http://www.collegeofsocialwork.org/uploadedFiles/TheCollege/_CollegeLibrary/Reform_resources/PracticeEducatorProfessional(edref11).pdf
The University will request evidence from Practice Educators on an annual basis to ensure compliance with The College
of Social Work and HCPC requirements.
If an agency is appointing a Practice Educator then it is their responsibility to ensure that the relevant requirements of
The College of Social Work Practice Educator Professional Standards are met. If the agency requires assistance in this
matter then please contact the Social Work Practice Learning Co-ordinator.
Support Offered by the University
Anglia Ruskin University will offer placement support through meetings with placement/personal tutors and
workshops for those involved in direct placement provisions. We will also provide agencies and Practice Educators
with Placement Guides and any further information requested.
The University will manage the payment of placements, monitor the quality of the practice placements and the
assessment of student practice and offer support to all parties when difficulties arise.
We will ensure that all students have an up to date DBS. However, it is the agencies responsibility to request the
student bring their copy of the DBS to a pre-placement meeting and check the information within it.
The University ensures that all students have an occupational health check completed prior to starting a practice
placement.
