100-Hour Personal Care Home Administrator Training

Pa. Code 2600 (35Pa.B.2499) Approved by the Department of Public Welfare

Penn State delivers continuing education for health care professionals who are preparing to become personal care home administrators and/or administrators and direct-care staff members who need to meet continuing education requirements. Prior to initial employment as an administrator, candidates must successfully complete a

100-hour training course.

These programs address issues surrounding personal care homes. The training also addresses the responsibility of providing safe, humane, comfortable, and supportive residential settings for adults who don’t require the services in or of a licensed longterm care facility, but do require assistance or supervision with daily living activities and other physical and mental life skills.

Who Should Attend

Aspiring administrators and current personal care home administrators in preparation for the PCHA exam, and persons providing elder care for family members will find several or all of the topics valuable and are encouraged to register.

Nurses, personal care home administrators, and health care professionals can fulfill their continuing education requirements by taking any of the following courses in the

100-hour training. Personal care home administrators are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education per year; direct-care staff, 12 hours.

Required Administrator Orientation

In addition to attendance in the 100-hour Administrator training program, participants must also attend the required PA Department of Public Welfare Administrator

Orientation. Proof of attendance at this orientation session must be provided before the certification test can be given.

The orientation is proved by the PA Department of Welfare at no cost. Go to PA

Department of Public Welfare - Administrator 100-Hour Course to view the orientation schedule.
