The Assistant Director for Clubs and Organizations is a key position in the Associated Students
of the University of Nevada (ASUN) Center for Student Engagement (CSE). The position is
responsible for supervision, risk management and advisement of campus-wide events/programs
sponsored by ASUN and works closely with campus offices in managing all club sports. The
Assistant Director chairs the Student Events Advisory Board, assigns security or police as
necessary, and manages all risk and liability issues associated with all student-sponsored
events including club sports. The incumbent serves as the liaison with campus administration,
the City of Reno, and other constituencies to ensure legality, compliance and safety at events
including negotiation between student clubs and other organizations to support positive
relationships and liability prevention. The position develop and implement student leadership
programs, strategic plans, and research assessment of all clubs, programming efforts and
resources with managerial collaboration.

40% - Advising and Compliance
 Act as liaison to groups and advise the ASUN Clubs and Organizations Board which is
comprised of appointed officers of the Associate Students, Sports Club Council and its
membership, the Director of Clubs and Organizations, and University recognized clubs
and organizations
 Act as primary advisor for all decisions associated with campus-wide programming of
student clubs and organizations in the absence of the Associate Director, Student
Government
 Monitor various programs and services including campus programming, clubs and
organizations, and Student Event Advisory Board

Implement Student Life and University policies, i.e., the Student Activities Protocol for
Special Events, the Student Events Advisory Board, Student Protest and Demonstration
Protocol, Amplified Sound Policy and ASUN and University posting
Research laws, regulations and policies; develop and implement policies to ensure clubs
and organizations are in compliance with federal, local and university protocols (e.g.,
food protocols, safety protocols, etc.)
Oversee risk management associated with events and club international travel
Monitor and advise campus-wide events/programs sponsored by ASUN and its
recognized clubs and organizations, the Student Events Advisory Board, and the ASUN
Clubs and Organizations Board of club resources services and of the risk management
of these programs to student leadership, student clubs, employees and various public
entities that co-sponsor programs on the campus
Investigate and adjudicate failure of clubs to meet standards or who violate CSE policy
20% - Supervision and Training
 Directly supervise student employees including the Clubs and Organizations assistants
 Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate student employment staff
 Direct students’ decision-making regarding student club activities
 Develop and implement student club development programs, leadership programs,
strategic plans, and research assessment of all clubs, programming efforts and
resources
15% - Administration and Fiscal Management
 Directly manage and oversee all ASUN clubs and organizational sponsored
events/programs and the Clubs and Organizations Board daily contractual obligations
 Manage all details of the recognition process for all clubs and organizations
 Chair the Student Events Advisory Board comprised of University Scheduling, Joe
Crowley Student Union Scheduling, and University Police Services to advocate for and
grant approval for all club sponsored events on the entire campus
 Work closely with the Campus Recreation Program in managing all club sports
 Assign security or request police as necessary and manage all risk and liability issues
associated with all student sponsored events including club sports
 Administer the ASUN Clubs and Organizations budgets for clubs and organizations and
the endowment budgets for all club and organizations with signatory responsibility
15% - Assessment and Data Reporting
 Work with Associate Director to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans and
research assessment of processes for student activities
 Compile data/statistics to support service funding and staffing
 Administer research and assessment of clubs and services
 Implement regular assessment of quality of service delivery and make relevant changes
based on assessment results
 Administer and implement strategic plan in relation to division and university goals
 Use assessment results to strategically plan for future expansion in accordance with the
University master plan
10% - Communication
 Develop and present workshops and seminars at regional and national conferences
 Attend professional development workshops, conferences and trainings

Represent Student Activities, Student Life and/or the Division of Student Services in
meetings, on committees and in workgroups both on and off campus
Administer and communicate event details with important external constituencies
Liaise with campus administration, the City of Reno, and other constituencies

The Assistant Director works directly with student government leadership, club and
organization leadership teams, and faculty and upper level administration within Student
Services to apply university and Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) policy and
procedures and city, state, and federal laws to aid and advise leadership on program and event
planning. Student government decision-making/discussions can be highly energetic and
demanding in terms of information and legal precedence. The individual exercises
considerable judgment in applying and relaying NSHE and University policies, procedures, and
city, state and federal law to discussions and decision-making. The Assistant Director
communicates with NSHE, Board of Regents, University Counsel, Risk management Office,
and Alumni Association to eliminate risks associated with pre-cooked food served at student
events by clubs and ASUN and minimize potential risk of special events. The position interacts
with campus departments in resolving scheduling issues, negotiating conflicts, managing
budgets, and maximizing event planning and advising of student groups. The incumbent works
with external sources, i.e., government, law enforcement, NSHE legal counsel, and regulatory
agencies, etc., to advise the campus-wide and student club programming and events and also
with the Washoe County and State Health Departments to eliminate potential risks associated
with pre-cooked food served at student events. The incumbent must possess good judgment
in applying Board policies to problems and situations not falling clearly within precedent.

The Assistant Director consults with the Associate Director on the implementation of strategic
plans, new program initiatives, and substantive changes. Additionally, the incumbent is
expected to report policy or safety violations to management or anything which may result in a
negative public image.
