Initial Placement on the WCSD 6 Salary Schedule
The following guidelines will be used to accept professional development hours and college credit for placement on the WCSD 6 Salary Schedule.
Multiple Bachelor's or Master's Degrees: The district will recognize only one degree for salary schedule placement. The most recent and/or
highest degree related to the educational field in which the teacher is teaching will be taken as the recognized degree for salary placement. Hours from a
first degree or subsequent second degrees will not be taken into consideration. Educational degrees will be taken over non-educational degrees as they
pertain to the teacher’s content area.
Specific coursework may be counted above the educational degree if the course work is relevant to the educational arena in which the teacher is teaching
(please see University or College Credit below).
Other District’s Professional Development Credit: In-service and professional development credit from other districts will be accepted upon
review from WCSD 6 Human Resources. Professional development credit will only be taken if it is above the placement degree and obtained after an
official teaching licensure program and the completion of student teaching. All credits are calculated as semester credit hours for placement purposes.
University or College Credit: University and/or college credit will be accepted upon review by the WCSD 6 Human Resources administration.
University/college credit will only be accepted if it is above the placement degree and obtained after an official teaching licensure program and the
completion of student teaching. All credits are calculated as semester credit hours for placement purposes.
Calculation of Credit Hours for Initial Placement: WCSD 6 calculates professional development clock hours as follows: 15 clock hours equals 1
semester credit hour. College quarter hours are calculated by dividing 1.5 into the number of quarter hours obtained (i.e. 5 quarter credit hours divided
by 1.5 equals 3.33 semester credit hours).
Teaching Experience: We will grant up to 10 years teaching experience with verification of a teaching license (temporary, interim, probationary,
professional, etc.) and completion of a student teaching program (or equivalent).
Rehires: When a previous employee returns to the district, their salary will be at the level they achieved prior to severing from the district. No
negotiated steps or columns will be added. Additional years of experience will be reviewed and approved through the guidelines set forth by Human
Resources Administration.
FAQs
Question
Answer
I have a bachelor’s degree in science from 1998, a master’s
degree in science from 2003 and another degree in massage
therapy from 2006. I teach high school science. How will I be
placed on the salary schedule?
We will take your highest degree that relates to your educational
assignment. You will be teaching science so we will take your highest degree
which is your master’s degree in science from 2003 for initial salary
placement. The other hours will not count toward placement.
I received my bachelors in math in 1979 and was a statistician
for a corporation for ten years. I then went back and received my
masters in math while obtaining my teaching license in 1990.
How will I placed on the salary schedule?
We will take your highest degree as it relates to your licensure. In this case
you received your master’s degree in math while obtaining your teaching
license. You will be placed using your master’s degree. No additional hours
will be added for licensure.
I received my master’s degree in forensics criminology in 1990. I
went back to school in 1999 and received my English teaching
bachelor’s degree. I am in an alternative teaching program with
CBOCES right now and am teaching high school English. How
will I be placed on the salary schedule?
I have two master’s degrees and I have previous teaching
experience. I completed my student teaching during my
bachelor’s degree but have not received a professional teaching
license. Will you count both master’s degrees and all my
experience?
I worked for Greeley-Evans schools for three years during 20002003 and I now have 5 years additional service from another
school district. How many years would I receive?
We will take the highest degree that relates to the educational content you
are teaching. In this scenario we will take your bachelor’s in English and
you will be placed on the first step of the salary schedule.
We will count the highest and most recent degree obtained which is a
master’s (we will not count two master’s degrees) and grant credits
obtained above the most recent master’s degree. We will grant years of
teaching experience after the completion of a student teaching program.
We will begin the conversation at the last salary schedule placement you
achieved at the time you left the school district. The five additional years
will be evaluated based on criteria set in HR.
