Early Warning Systems are powerful tools schools use to identify students who may be
at-risk for not graduating high school. How do we know? Because, as indicated on this Fact
Sheet http://floridarti.usf.edu/resources/factsheets/ews.pdf developed by the University of South
Florida (2014), several studies have pinpointed key indicators (attendance, discipline, course
performance) schools and families need to know in order to reduce risk for drop out and
improve readiness for college, career, and life. Important Note: These indicators are known
as early as elementary and middle grades, which is why Pasco County Schools has taken
steps to communicate with students and families what it means to be on-track in
elementary and middle schools in order to be ready for high school. Your child’s teacher
team would like to inform you that based Pasco’s Early Warning System indicators, your child
may be at-risk for not graduating on-time due to lack of progress in one more key indicator
areas. At this time, your child is at-risk or off-track in the following areas.
