Students must meet all University Requirements in order to graduate, for a complete list of the requirements see the General Catalog. Conflicts in class times may require modification of this plan.
1. Biology majors are strongly advised to complete the required math coursework as quickly as possible and to take math classes every semester until completing MATH 1210. Math prerequisites are valid for at most one year and must have C or C- grades or better. MATH 0900, 1010, 1050, and 1060 may be required for those not prepared to begin MATH 1210. If you do not have a math grade or test (ACT, SAT, MPE) score within the last year, you will be required to take the Math Placement Exam to begin the math coursework.
2. A minimum of 24 credits are needed to meet University Studies in addition to the coursework specified above.
This includes:
ENGL 1010
ENGL 2010
Breadth American Institutions (BAI)
Breadth Creative Arts (BCA)
Breadth Humanities (BHU)
Breadth Social Sciences (BSS)
Depth Humanities and Creative Arts (DHA)
Depth Social Sciences (DSS)
See General Catalog or the Major Requirements Sheet for more details.
3. Students must select from the following list, one upper-division physiology course with an integrated lab or separate laboratory:
Course with integrated laboratories:
BIOL 4400- Plant Physiology (F)
BIOL 4600- Advanced Human Physiology (Sp)
BIOL 5300- Microbial Physiology (F)
Courses with separate lecture and lab:
BIOL 5100- Neurobiology (Sp) and
BIOL 5610 – Animal Physiology Laboratory (F)
or
BIOL 5600- Comparative Animal Physiology (F)
and
BIOL 5610- Animal Physiology Laboratory (F)
4. Students may choose two of the following for Molecular Biology/Biotechnology Course Requirement (6 credits)
BIOL 5160-Methods in Biotechnology: Cell Culture (Sp)
BIOL 5190-Molecular Genetics (Sp)
BIOL 5260-Methods in Biotechnology: Molecular Cloning (F)
BIOL 5280-Animal Molecular Biology (Sp)
5. Students must select an additional 9 credits of 4000-level and above BIOL prefix courses as electives. BIOL
3300 (General Microbiology) and BIOL 3065 (Genetics Lab) may be used even though they are 3000-level classes. A maximum of 4 credits from BIOL 4250 (1-2 credits), BIOL 4710 (1 credit), BIOL 5800 (1-3 credits), or seminar courses (1-2 credits) may be used.
