
Research overseas university systems and study opportunities.
Review the Fulbright website [http://us.fulbrightonline.org/home.html] after May 1 when
all programs are updated for 2013-14. The website has many and varied resources.
Spend time investigating many avenues within the U.S. Student Program site within
Fulbright.
Consult your academic advisors and professors for ideas about which project ideas might
be more feasible than others. Work with them to design a project that can feasibly be
done in a 9 month to a year period.
Make an appointment with Dr. Damuth to discuss how the Fulbright works, or attend
one of the spring workshops (usually in late March after Spring break)
Locate ideal programs and decide to whom you would write for host country affiliation.
If you plan to take GMAT, LSAT, and other tests, determine when to do so in light of the
possible Fulbright application and the time you need to focus on that process, if you are
an undergraduate graduating by August 2013.

Check in with the Fellowships Office (118 Neihardt; 402-472-5601)
Contact your recommenders to let them know to send a draft of their letter to the
Fellowships Office, fellowships@unl.edu. We need this draft before setting up faculty
review committees.


September 7, 2012 5:00 p.m. Fulbright Campus Deadline.
At this time, you will SUBMIT the application online. The following documents are
due:
o Completed online application form
o Statement of grant purpose
o Personal statement
o 3 letters of recommendation
o Official UNL transcripts
o Foreign Language Report
o Language background report
o Letter of Affiliation
Process for materials that accompany the online application:
1. Transcripts: please hand in a hard copy of your official transcripts to the Fellowships Office.
We will make a PDF and send that to you to upload onto the application. (In the event that your
application is forwarded to the country, the official transcripts will need to be mailed as hard
copies. We will take care of this for you.)
2. Letter of affiliation (only for the Research Fulbright): this letter needs to be addressed to
you and be signed. The most efficient way for you to receive this letter is for your affiliate to
make a PDF version of the original letter and email that to you. You can then upload this letter
to your online application.
3. Letters of recommendation: Reference letters for the Fulbright program are submitted online
only. Once this online letter is submitted electronically, it cannot be retrieved (unsubmitted).
Because we may ask referees to make technical corrections to their letters of reference, we
suggest that we modify the submission process.
a. Please enter the names of your recommenders in your on-line application, but DO NOT
enter their email addresses.
b. Let the Fellowships Office know who is writing for you. We will send the faculty
writer an email detailing a bit more about how to write Fulbright letters of support.
c. We will request that the faculty member submit a DRAFT of their letter in time for the
review committee.
d. Once the review committee has met, we will give you the “go ahead” to enter the
recommender’s email address into the online application. That will generate a request to
your recommenders to upload their letters.
4. Supplementary materials for the Arts: Please read about how to prepare these on the
Fulbright website. These are the only items that are mailed to Fulbright.
LATE SEPTEMBER – EARLY OCTOBER


UNL will hold its Fulbright Campus Interviews. (If you are out of town, these can be
done over the phone.)
