Non-fiction report: Knights and castles
knights:
A knight usually came from a noble family. Believe it or not most
knights couldn’t read or write. They were known for their weapons.
Knights were soldiers that lived in a castle. They used to wear heavy
metal armour that covered all their body. A full suite could weigh up
to 24kg. Do you think knights had a good life?
On the battle field:
A page road with his master coming in to battle. Most knights fought
horse back and rode amongst the leader on the battle field. Did you
know when a knight dies his coat of arms goes to his eldest son. They
used lots of weapons on the battle such as: the two – handed sword,
bow and arrows, lance and mace.
Knights hobbies:
All knights hobby was jousting. Jousting became an element of a
knight’s life in mid 1200s. other hobby of a knight was taking part in
tournaments. Most knights owned there own falcon so they took
part in the hawking contest. Knights never did archery. Knights used
to go hunting for food in the night and there ladies went with them
.Did you know at one tournament in Germany over 60 knights died.
Peasants:
Peasants lived on knights’ land and worked for them. Peasants’
houses were cold, damp and dark and they had no electric. They
were the poorest people in the land. A peasant worked at least 15
hours a day. They lived in a mud hut witch had thatched roof. Did
you know the dungeon was the strongest part of the castle?
What did they wear?
Knights wore helmets and clothes made of steal to protect
themselves on the battle field. A knight in full armour could weigh
over a ton. A knight carried his sword with him all the time. Did you
know a knight’s sword was his most important weapon on the battle
field?
