Certificate I General Education for Adults
Course Outcomes
The outcomes of the 22236VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults focus on the development of
literacy skills to create and interpret simple, personally relevant texts and mathematical knowledge to apply
numeracy skills in everyday familiar situations. Skills and knowledge are applied to develop and document a
learning plan, prepare a portfolio to evidence learning and engage in a project. The language, literacy and
numeracy outcomes of this qualification align to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for the Certificate I in General Education for Adults. However an
informal interview, along with literacy, language and numeracy assessment (ie Pre-training review) is
carried out for each learner to assess their suitability to the course and at what level the individual
student is suited to enter into.
Employment Pathway:
Pathways could include employment in voluntary or paid work, involvement in community
organisations, or participation in non-accredited courses, catering assistant with food handling
certificate. Education outcomes will focus on improved communication, learning, problem solving,
kitchen life skills, and initiative, planning for the future and team work. To improve chances of entry
level positions at workplaces.

This program addresses the education and training needs of:





Adults who left school early and who need to improve their literacy, basic mathematics and
general education skills;
Disengaged youth who have disconnected from mainstream education, and whose life
experiences have inhibited access to education, training and employment;
Indigenous participants
At risk youth
People with disabilities
Access and Equity
The principles of access and equity will be applied in the selection of participants and the delivery of
training and assessment
Assessments
Participants will be assessed through competency based training and will be required to perform set
tasks at specified standards, under prescribed conditions. A range of assessments methods will be
used to enable participants to demonstrate competency and may include but are not restricted to
project, written responses, observation/role play, portfolio of evidence and research assignment.
Duration
 This program is delivered over a 22 week period which includes 1 term breaks and public
holidays.
 Actual delivery and assessment is 20 weeks comprising of 385 hours which is further broken
up as:
 Student contact hours = 20 hrs, which is made up of 4 days x 5 hrs per day
 Term breaks = 2 weeks
 Scheduled classes as per 4 sessions per week over 22 weeks are from 10.00am – 3.30pm
with ½ hour lunch break.

TaskForce offers a range of support services to assist prospective participants with their course,
career, education support, and counselling and disability support services.
Victorian Training Guarantee
The Victorian Training Guarantee Program is making training more accessible to people who do not
have a post-school qualification or who want to gain a higher level qualification than they already
have. For every eligible individual seeking to undertake this accredited training at TaskForce, the

Victorian Training Guarantee will provide funding to support this training. Eligibility for access to a
Victorian Training Guarantee government supported place will depend on certain factors such as

Certificate II General Education for Adults
Course Outcomes
The outcomes of the 22237VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults focuses on the
development of literacy skills to read, interpret, evaluate and create a range of texts and to apply
knowledge of everyday and formal numeracy in a range of contexts. Outcomes also focus on the
skills and knowledge to conduct a project and to investigate pathways and develop, implement and
review a learning plan. The language, literacy and numeracy outcomes of this course alight l Level 4
of the Australian Core Skills Framework

Certificate III General Education for Adults
Course Outline
The outcomes of the Certificate III in General Education for Adults focus on the development of literacy skills
to read, interpret, critically analyse and create complex texts and to perform a range of complex mathematical
tasks. The Certificate III also includes the ability to research a range of pathway options and identify and
progress toward personal goals. The language, literacy and numeracy outcomes of this qualification align to
Level 5 of the Australian Core Skills Framework.
