JUNIOR PENNANTS-GRAND FINALS Congratulations must go to our 3 winning junior teams and 3 runners up junior teams for what was a fantastic effort in the Grand Finals on Sunday the 18th March. The three winning teams were: Girls 16 Div 1 who defeated Dalkeith in convincing fashion after the singles 3-7-54 to 1-2-35. All girls played their best tennis after a much closer semi-final the week before. Boys 16 Div 2 who defeated Manning well scoring 4-8-57 to 0-2-41. They also finished after the singles, and went through the season undefeated. Boys 14 Div 9 who defeated North Beach in a very close contest 3-7-60 to 3-6-50. Louis Taylor lost in three but the extra set gave them the edge. (Match details can be found by looking at Results Vault) The three teams who lost in the Grand final all put up a good fight. Boys 16 Div 6 who lost to Onslow Park on sets. Boys 12 Div 3 who also lost very narrowly to Corinthian. Green Ball Div 3 who had a tough one against the top team Melville/Palmyra. The other exciting news is that 4 of our juniors won Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards in their division. Orange ball: Calum Wong Boys 14 (Div 9): Logan McAlpine Boys 16 (Div 2): Valentin Wagner Boys 16 (Div 6): Ryan Hayward MIDWEEK PENNANTS-GRAND FINALS Congratulations to Thursday Night Ladies Division 10 who won their Grand final 5-3. Wednesday Ladies Division 4 lost their Grand final. It was disappointing for the ladies as they have 6 sets each and they lost on a count back off 3 games. Wednesday Ladies Division 1 Grass court lost their semi-final 0-7. Wednesday Ladies Division 4 Grass court lost their semi-final 1-7. Wednesday Ladies Division 6 Open lost in their semi-final, this was a closely contented semi-final with Reabold 5-52 losing to Melville Palmyra 7-55. TW has recorded an increase of 50 teams playing pennants this season over last year. With our 8 plexicushion courts it certainly has transformed tennis at Reabold into an all year round sport. We wish the following teams well for the winter season. Saturday Open Teams Men’s Div. 2 & 6 Ladies Div. 1 & 3 Wednesday Midweek Open Div. 1, 4, 5 & 8 Thursday Women Night Div.4 Sunday juniors Boys 14 Div. 6 Boys 16 Div. 1 Girls 16 Div. 1 Green Ball 9/10/11 Div. 1 & 3 Tennis West Industry Awards Simon Harper from Total Tennis was a finalist for the Coaching Excellence MLC Hotshots Coach of the Year 2011 – 2012. The awards were given out at a function last Friday night at the South of Perth Yacht Club. Congratulations Simon and all the team from Total Tennis and we are sure you will go one better next year. Mid-week Ladies Tuesday Ladies Social Tennis is thriving with over 30 ladies playing regularly each week. Tournaments were held to celebrate both St Valentine’s Day and Easter with 34 competitors in each. The St Valentine’s Day tournament outright winner was Wendy Williamson and the Easter tournament was won by Ann McElligott. Both events were followed by lunch, raffle and the Captains Poem. Our next big event is the Annual tournament which is being held in June with a Wimbledon theme – let’s hope the rain holds off. Hillary Thomas & Sue Salvair Club/ Garden Maintenance We would like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of the following members who worked tirelessly to clear the garden bank opposite Floreat Forum. Good job it looks great. This is part of a long term plan to have more structured garden rather than the overgrown bits and pieces that are there currently. If you drive past the native garden at the new State Basketball Centre you will see the vision we are trying to create. We would also like the club and courts to be seen by the traffic that passes the Forum every day and it is also planned to ultimately have a better entrance statement from what was the original entrance into the club. Geoff Stooke Geoff Hodsdon Terry Sampson Claude Hayward John Dunne Bob Beardman Jim Ashenden Dave Strickland Also, extra thanks to Claude Hayward for his efforts in making good some recycled chairs that are now over at the hard court area. Reabold Board Member Geoff Stooke Appointed to the Board of ARU We are very pleased to include the following media release from Rugby WA about our Board Member Geoff Stooke. Rugby WA has welcomed the appointment of former Rugby WA Chairman Geoff Stooke OAM CitWA to the Board of the Australian Rugby Union. Mr Stooke was nominated by Rugby WA and at today’s ARU Board Meeting and was elected unopposed. Mr Stooke served on the Western Australian Rugby Board for 25 years, 23 of those as Chairman, before retiring in 2011. He was instrumental in the sustained growth of the game across senior and junior ranks as well playing a lead role in securing a Super 14 licence and establishing the Emirates Western Force. “Geoff’s elevation to the board of the ARU is a fillip for Rugby throughout the Australia,” Rugby WA CEO Vern Reid said. “A lifelong and passionate Rugby man, Geoff has a strong sense of the issues and challenges facing the code and we have no doubt he’ll make a significant contribution in his new appointment.” Mr Stooke joins former Wallabies halfback George Gregan as new faces to the ARU Board. Congratulations Geoff from all at Reabold Sunday Tennis Even with the special efforts to implement Sunday Tennis, and the time given by Geoff Stooke, it was never attended by many players. Therefore, we shall not continue with it at this stage. Wine Fundraiser Another of our club fundraisers is the sale of some excellent wine. This year’s sponsor is Deep Woods Estate-Margaret River. The wine is available for purchase immediately from Martina. 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc $110 Carton 2009 Shiraz $125 Carton 2008 Cabernet Merlot $125 Carton Saturday Junior Club As the Friday night blockbusters are doing so well, the Saturday Junior Club has had very few attendees. Therefore, there will be no Junior Club until Term 4. Crèche Friday mornings the crèche is busy with the children of the Total Tennis Mum’s Friday group. Angie Harper is kept very busy with the little ones, and often is ably assisted by Kerryn O’Brien. The recently installed air-conditioning makes it a very comfortable to place to keep the kids active. Special thanks to Sue Matera who recently donated a number of fantastic toys to add to the crèche. Club Tennis Attire The club has chosen a new style tennis shirt for the club designed and manufactured in a new lightweight fabric. If you wish to order the new style please see Martina Alessandro in the office or call 042 113 7250.
