About VIVA Physicians Founded in 2003, Vascular InterVentional Advances (VIVA) is a not-for-profit physician organization dedicated to advancing the field of vascular medicine and intervention through education and research. About VIVA 14 In 2003, VIVA Physicians began holding an annual multidisciplinary vascular education conference in Las Vegas, NV. Each year, recognized experts and attendees from around the world come to learn innovative technologies and therapies for vascular disease to improve vascular patient care. At VIVA 14, there are multiple learning venues, where attendees can pick the format that works best for their individual style. New programs are developed each year based on feedback and findings from the previous year. For the first time, VIVA has teamed up with VitalMedical to integrate Google Glass into the Cath Lab and stream live cases. Ansel , MD Interventional Cardiology Dr. Gary Ansel is an internationally renowned interventional expert in both peripheral vascular and Cardiovascular procedures. He is Associate Medical Director of the OhioHealth Research and Innovation Institute and serves on the OhioHeath Research Industry Council. He has recently been named as System Medical Chief Vascular Program at OhioHealth in Columbus, OH. Joshua A. Beckman, MD Vascular Medicine Dr. Joshua Beckman is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Vascular Medicine Section in the Cardiovascular Division at Brigham and Women's Hospital, both in Boston. He is the Past President of the Society of Vascular Medicine and is active in numerous other professional organizations, including the ACC and AHA. He has won the ACC's W. Proctor Harvey Young Teacher Award. Michael D. Dake, MD Interventional Radiology Dr. Michael Dake is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and Medical Director of the Catheterization and Angiography Laboratories at Stanford University Medical Center. Previously, he served as Division Chief of Interventional Radiology for 15 years at Stanford before being named Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the University of Virginia. He returned to Stanford in 2008 where he focuses on developing endovascular procedures to manage patients with thoracic and abdominal diseases. In addition, his research interests include the use of drug-eluting stents and balloons for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease and the use of percutaneous therapies to address a range of venous lesions. In addition to specialty certification in Diagnostic Radiology and Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Dr. Dake is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. Tony S. Das, MD Interventional Cardiology Dr. Das is a founding member of VIVA. He is a board-certified peripheral interventional cardiologist with national expertise in (CTO) recanalization and new device testing and development. Dr. Das is the chief of Cardiology and Interventional Endovascular Department at the Walnut Hill Medical Center. Michael R. Jaff, DO Vascular Medicine Michael R. Jaff, DO is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Chair of the MGH Institute for Heart, Vascular, and Stroke Care, Medical Director of the Vascular Center, Medical Director of the Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory, and director of Care Redesign at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Jaff is an active clinical consultant in all aspects of vascular medicine and has published extensively in the field of Vascular Medicine with over 160 peer-reviewed publications and 9 textbooks. He is a Past-President and Master of the Society for Vascular Medicine. He is the founder and Medical Director of the Vascular Ultrasound Core Laboratory, participating in over 160 trials in 60 countries around the World. Dr. Jaff competed the general management program at Harvard Business School and is the first incumbent Paul and Phyllis Fireman Endowed Chair in Vascular Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. James D. Joye, DO Interventional Cardiology Dr. James Joye is a founding board member of VIVA Physicians. He serves as Chief Medical Officer of the Fogarty Institute for Innovation and as Director of TAVR at the Heart & Vascular Institute at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA. Dr. Joye has authored over 20 patents and is credited with the development of cryoplasty and percutaneous femoropopliteal bypass. John A. Kaufman, MD Interventional Radiology Dr. John Kaufman is the Fredrick S. Keller Professor of Interventional Radiology and the Director of the Dotter Interventional Institute at Oregon Health & Science University. He also has appointments in Vascular Surgery and Cardiology. Dr. Kaufman's primary clinical interests are aortic disease, venous diseases, and vascular malformations. His clinical research has focused on IVC filters. John R. Laird Jr., MD Interventional Cardiology John R. Laird, is Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Vascular Center at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center. He is an Interventional Cardiologist who has been performing peripheral vascular interventions for over 20 years. Dr. Laird has served as Principal Investigator for numerous multicenter clinical trials of new devices for vascular intervention. Sean P. Lyden, MD Vascular Surgery Sean Lyden, MD, is an Associate Professor and vascular surgeon in the Department of Vascular Surgery, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic, as well as the Medical Director of Clinical Supply Chain Management for the Cleveland Clinic Health System. Manish Mehta, MD Vascular Surgery Dr. Manish Mehta is the Professor of Surgery and Endowed Chair for Vascular Education at Albany Medical College. He is also the President /CEO for the Center for Vascular Awareness and Founder and Director of Albany Vascular International Academy. He is a frequent presenter at National and International meetings as well as a principal investigator for clinical trials. Additionally, Dr. Mehta has authored peer-reviewed publications, serves on editorial boards and received the President’s Award for Vision, VDF, for dedication to vascular health awareness. D. Christopher Metzger, MD Interventional Cardiology Dr. D. Christopher Metzger, MD is an interventional cardiologist in a 40-person cardiology group at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. He is a high-volume operator with >4000 endovascular & >1700 carotid stent interventions. He participates as PL and has been lead enroller in many CAS and PV trials, and has served as faculty at many major scientific meetings. His professional passions are clinical research, endovascular intervention, and teaching. Krishna Rocha-Singh, MD Interventional Cardiology Dr. Krishna Rocha-Singh received his undergraduate medical education at UCLA and general internal medicine training at the Univ. of Colorado. He completed a basic science research fellowship in the Dept. of Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the Univ. of California, San Francisco (UCSF) with an interest in cellular mechanisms and transmembrane signaling of cardiac proteins. He completed his general cardiology fellowship at UCSF and trained in coronary and peripheral interventions at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. He joined Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants, Ltd., in 1993 and has served in leadership positions within the ACC and ABVM. He serves on editorial boards of academic journals and has authored over 100 peerreviewed manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts on endovascular and interventional subjects. He is a National Principal Investigator for clinical device trials and is a founding board member of VIVA. Kenneth Rosenfield, MD Interventional Cardiology Dr. Kenneth Rosenfield has been a leader, innovator, and educator in vascular medicine and cardiology for two decades. He has served as National PI of several seminal clinical trials and occupies leadership roles in industry-sponsored trials. He has served on numerous committees for ACC, AHA, and SCAI and has recently developed a national carotid stenting database, aimed at improving quality and reducing errors. John H. Rundback, MD Interventional Radiology Dr. John Rundback has been the Director of the Interventional Institute at Holy Name Medical Center since the Fall of 2005 and the Founder and Managing Partner of Advanced Interventional Radiology Services, LLP (AIRS). He is a graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical Center, did his residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC, and fellowship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Peter Schneider, MD Vascular Surgery Dr. Schneider is Chief of Vascular at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Honolulu and a full-time vascular surgeon. He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and did residency and vascular surgery fellowship at University of California, San Francisco.
