End-of-Year Camp at YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park! March 16, 2015 Dear McAuliffe Families, We’re gearing up for our end of year camp at YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park during the final week of May! Sixth grade students will attend the camp from May 26-28. They’ll enjoy camp activities such as hiking, a ropes course, archery, free play time, and campfire time during the evenings. YMCA counselors will lead all activities, with parent and staff chaperones assisting. Camp Presentation Night – Monday, April 20th We’ll share more detailed information about departure times, packing lists, and what to look forward to at camp during our Camp Presentation night at McAuliffe on April 20th in the auditorium. Please be sure to attend with your student. Please bring your signed forms and payment to our Camp Presentation Night. ● 6:00-7:00pm for 6th grade families ● 7:15-8:15pm for 7th grade families Forms to fill out and return to McAuliffe with payment We need all families who intend to send their student on this camp trip to read and return their signed forms by April 20th. You can bring payment & paperwork with you to our Camp Presentation Night or return it to Mrs. Pittman in the office. This includes: ● Student Interest Form (white paper) ● DPS Parent/Guardian Release and Agreement and Consent to Emergency Treatment (green) ● Durable Power of Attorney for Medical Care for Off Campus Trip (blue) ● YMCA of the Rockies Outdoor Education Student Liability Release (yellow) In addition to the above forms, if your student takes medications at school and has already submitted the corresponding Student Medication Request Release Agreement, that same form will transfer for use at the camp. If your student will need to take medication they do not normally also take at school, you will need to pick up a Student Medication Request Release Agreement from the office, sign it and have your doctor sign it, and then submit this to either the school nurse or to Mrs. Pittman in the office. McAuliffe End-of-Year Camp Information – 3/2015 - page 3 of 3 Cost of the camp and financial assistance The total cost of the 3 day 2 night camp, including all camp activities, food, lodging, and transportation to and from the camp on coach buses is $175. Families may make payment by check (to ‘MIS’) or cash. We would love all students to join us regardless of financial status. Please contact Mrs. Pittman to make arrangements for partial or full assistance for the cost of your student’s trip if you need financial assistance. Optional Horseback Riding In addition to the “all-inclusive” camp covered in the $175 cost, YMCA of the Rockies also offers horseback riding for an additional cost. If you would like your student to go horseback riding please indicate your interest on the attached Student Interest and Chaperone Form and submit additional payment to Mrs. Pittman in the office in the amount of $31. This activity does require a minimum number of participants; if there are not enough participants, your money will be refunded and your student will take part in the free play activities during that time. There is a limit of 34 students who can participate. Registration for horseback riding will be on a first come (paid) basis. Buddy requests for lodging and activities Lodging will accommodate either 4 or 5 students per room, and groups of roommates will remain together for organized camp activities in larger groups of 15. If your student would like to request being with a buddy in their room and activity group, please specify up to 3 preferences on the attached form. We may not be able to honor all requests, but we’ll consider this input. Boys and girls will be in separate quarters. Parent/Guardian chaperones The attached Student Interest Form includes a spot for parents and guardians to sign up to volunteer as a chaperone. All camp activities are guided by YMCA camp counselors, but we need a chaperone for every 15 students to assist counselors and help organize and look out for students during the camp stay. Thank you for your assistance in returning all signed forms and payment by April 20th!
