future of the environment. Here is an invitation for you to take an initiative and

which you can creatively use to bring awareness to groups including church groups,

Quiz. As some one keenly interested in environmental issues, I found it very

At the end of the gem online quiz questionnaire conducted in Jan/Feb. 2015, there was
a question asking the participants to write in 5 to 10 lines their feedback on the ONLINE
QUIZ and what concrete actions they will take to save environment. Following are the
eye opening feedbacks given by the participants may inspire you to conduct such quiz
for your groups.

Taking part in this quiz has got me revved up for the environmental issues
and challenges even more. And hats off to you all for doing such wonderful
work so simply, humbly and diligently. Being a nature lover, poet, painter
since childhood, I have always been environmentally conscientious and
interested in ways to conserve and protect nature and environment. Though I
have not done much at a bigger level, in my own small way I have kept
abreast about latest findings and ways to do so. I use kitchen waste for
composting in my small terrace garden and make it a point to spread this to
friends and acquaintances and also offer help to do so. Our terrace garden
does have some biodiversity!!
I have brought up my child with the strong message that wastage of any kind
is criminal to the earth we live in – so we do not waste water, food,
electricity, paper or any resource, which directly or indirectly helps in small
ways. And we most certainly do not throw waste around, even if it is a small
chocolate wrapper – my daughter has started stopping her friends and other
children from doing so and also from mistreating strays. I also exhort others
to do so in my own way – for example while travelling in trains or buses I
stop people from throwing waste around or out of the windows – only 4 out
of 10 people pay heed but it is a start. Also when I find someone spitting
around, I express my disgust and make sure that person gets the message.
I have visited a few countries and have wondered how they do such a
wonderful job of cleanliness – in South Korea they have a strict
implementation of separating wet and dry garbage. I feel that we do have a
small percentage of conscious people willing to do their part but they need
proper support and guidance and the diligence to stick to it even if we form a
small group and others will eventually come around. And since all issues
related to the environment be it water, trees, garbage management etc. are
interlinked and interdependent we could form small systems at small levels
like a group for water, one for garbage, one for trees etc at society level and
small area levels and gradually bigger areas could be managed – like a multitier system at micro and macro levels so that instead of dealing with one
thing at a time we deal with all of them simultaneously and continuously and
consistently.
Also I feel that the common person is so bogged down with daily needs and
subsistence and safety issues, struggling to make ends meet, that it is better
to give small simple steps to the people to do on a daily basis and the bigger
steps could be undertaken by government bodies, NGOs, and the upper
levels on the multi-tier system. As far as awareness is concerned, I feel there
is quite good awareness even at the rural level, but of course it can be
enhanced. But the problem comes at the steps to be taken on a day-to-day
basis and the support required for that – for example to separate dry and wet
garbage each household needs separate bins and maybe different coloured
garbage bags, and at the next level REGULAR and proper collection of this
garbage by the municipal or collection bodies.
Most important is a change in attitude which only each one can do for oneself
– we see things being taught/learned from textbooks and then it is shut and
same wrong practices are being done by teachers, parents, and therefore
children. I am eager to help by spreading awareness and because of my
language skills I could help in your e-publications, editing etc. We could also
take up awareness drives at various schools, colleges, institutes, corporate
etc. The emergent nature of the problems and hazards has not entered the
hearts and minds of individuals – we have to realize that it is already too late
and have to do everything we can on a war footing rather than fight wars!!!

I was informed on various topics related to the environment, life-style

First father I would like to thank you for giving us this opportunity to take
part in this Environment Quiz. I think I not only benefitted but also learnt a
lot from the PPTs and was also bit shocked by the facts. I was not aware that
I as an individual was harming MY EARTH so much. After going through the
PPTs I have realized that even a small step on my families part can go a long

Because of this quiz, I have understood the seriousness of the environmental
problems our Planet Earth is facing. Development being the priority and goal
of many Nations has led to a great ecological imbalance, mainly due to
urbanization and industrialization. It is disheartening to see the current
devalued situation of our Mother Earth, where the environment is diminishing
before our eyes. God has created this heavenly nature for us to enjoy its
beauty and serenity but we have only contributed to its obliteration. It is now

tremendously. I was not aware at all, with most of the things mentioned.

website. I got a lot of information relating to saving the environment which
otherwise i would have not known. I understood how a small step taken by

I was aware of the various things that cause harm to the environment but
now I came to know about the precautions. So from now onwards I will use
only CFLs and switch off the lights when not in use. I will reuse whatever can
be reused and recycle whatever can be recycled. I will reduce the use of
paper by using both the sides of it, and wherever possible I will make use of
e-mail. I will not use plastic bags or plastic bottles instead I will make use of
cloth bags and refill my bottle and use it. I will eat vegetables at least once in
a week and avoid eating junk food and drinking soft drinks. I will brush my
teeth without wasting water and repair a leaky tap. Last but not the least I
will spread this knowledge to others and even encourage them to spread this.

It was a very refreshing experience to solve this Quiz – some new facts came
to light.. which I was totally ignorant of. SAVE Environment has become a
very serious issue, specially for our future generations… who I believe would
not enjoy the green environment as we had enjoyed on this earth. The main
problem which I think is cutting down trees for making homes to human
beings. Due to this climatic conditions have changed, there are landslides, no
adequate rains. To stop this deforestation should be stopped and more
plants needs to be grown. Apart from this we need to control air and water
pollutions. For this we should stop using plastic bags, garbage should be
recycled, car pooling should be encouraged, emissions from factories in the

This quiz helped me know that we take so much from the environment but
give it back in the form of pollution. Which ultimately is harming us and our
future generation. Pollution of every form has crossed alarming levels, and
posing a danger already. To save the environment, I would avoid polluting
the environment in whatever best way possible, such as avoid use of plastics,
dispose the garbage properly, use water judiciously etc…. Many housing
Societies are benefiting a lot from eco friendly initiatives like Rain water

world and encourages me and the next generation of conservationists who
will protect our precious natural resources. After all, we, young people and
adults are the key to finding future. I will try my best to use more

of environment . Otherwise, I used to take environment as a small thing .But
by the inspiring PPTS in your website I came to know how important is

I have learnt and gained a lot of information about the HARMFUL EFFECTS on
using inorganic materials (Plastics, Papers) and also how to make use of the
waste (Wet / Dry Garbage) from our household. I have also understood the
importance of the Rainwater Harvesting whereby the Rainwater could be
utilized in the proper manner. In order to save environment, I along with my
family and friend would first of all create awareness among the people about
the harm each one of us is doing to the environment. We can follow the
simple steps to save environment by conserving energy, water, and gas;
saving Biodiversity, recycling and reducing your material consumption. We
can switch off lights-fans when not needed, grow more plants, more use of
public transport and doing many such simple things can save our
environment. THE BATTLE TO SAVE ENVIRONMENT IS NOT JUST ANY
BATTLE. It is the battle for the future of the planet. Every one of us can do
something, in our local area, every day. We must not regret on what we have

By participating in this Gem quiz it benefit me lot I got to learn many things
about how much we pollute everyday sometimes by knowing or unknowingly.
By this quiz I also got to know about many other countries like how much
they use oil or pollute their surrounding areas and how much we waste
electricity everyday and we really pollute water and waste the water. And
after answering these question I felt very bad that how much we are careless
and pollute our surrounding areas. I also learn about climate. And I also got
to learn many thing about animal and many other living things. As I am a
small boy I don't know about the court and judges. I got to learn and know
many more things on nature. But I was very happy when I got to know what
Pope Francis had said that deforestation of rainforest is a sin. And really this

By participating in this environment quiz, I could brush up all my knowledge
regarding saving the environment and became aware of all the ill-effect that
are destroying our Mother Earth. I have decided that I would request all the
members of my housing society to plant trees around the society, to separate
wet and dry garbage and dispose accordingly, try for rainwater harvesting
system on the terrace and avoid the usage of plastic carry bags, so that we
can in a little way try to save our environment.

To save environment my family would be taking the intiative of-No wasting of
water
lights, fans or any machines which are unnecessarily utilising electricity will
be switched off. cloth bags or paper bags will be used instead of plastic bags.
As in group we will request the people not to throw away the waste on d

I really gained by participating in this environment quiz thus, emphasizing
the need of acquiring vast knowledge in today’s society. As Darwin’s theory
of ‘survival of the fittest’ has never proved so nearer to truth than today. As
it is evident we live at present in a world of competition and it is only those
who prove fittest in this battle of survival remain in the arena. I thank from
the bottom of my heart to the persons who organized this contest, giving a
golden opportunity to students like us to prove ourselves. Naturally, in such
circumstances one has to survive hard to fight to carve a place for
himself/herself. If not in all spheres of life, in most of the fields, one has to
have sound knowledge in a wide range of subjects, one such subject is the

I really learnt a lot about the reasons why our earth is degrading. I would
now for sure take up many actions to help the environment i.e. I will try to
encourage more and more plantation of trees and of course I myself might to
do it n I would take steps for cleanliness in my surroundings n I would also
use less plastic, save water, stop wasting food n also I won't burn crackers in
Diwali, I would use less of vehicles, save fuel n even boost my health, I

PowerPoint presentations of GEM Newsletter. In fact, I was not aware of the
harm we are doing for the Mother earth, which the Almighty has created so
beautifully and will try to improve. The actions which I will take to save
environment is that :

It has been a learning of new and various ways to know about how to reduce
the garbage and keep our environment clean. Minimization of the garbage
and waste products is one of the best & first options in treating the garbage
produced by us.
I would implement the various methods and use the proper techniques of
reducing the wastes and make sure that the wet garbage is separated from
the dry ones so that it can be used for making the fertilizers that can be used
for the growth of the plants and many other purposes.
