CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full-time FTE 1.0, 9 months START DATE: Fall 2016 or earlier Marylhurst University founders,

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Marylhurst University is seeking a creative and visionary leader to be its next faculty member of
Interdisciplinary Studies. Interdisciplinary Studies offers both Bachelors and Masters degrees. As one of the largest
undergraduate and graduate degree offerings on campus, the university is seeking an intellectual leader who can
integrate offerings from multiple departments on campus, teach dynamic courses in interdisciplinary studies and
maintain an active research agenda.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Perform academic responsibilities for the Interdisciplinary Studies Program,
including teaching interdisciplinary courses, developing curriculum, participating in student advising, and conducting
program assessment. 2. The Interdisciplinary Studies faculty reads and approves all senior projects as well as the
Masters in Interdisciplinary studies theses. 3. Expected to be highly collaborative and connect with faculty and students
from disciplines across campus to create new interdisciplinary courses and programs. 4. Will work with the Chair of the
department to recruit faculty from across campus to teach in the interdisciplinary studies program. 5. Help build
community partnerships for the university by being an engaged public scholar. 6. Stay active at a high level of expertise
in the subjects taught, maintain connection to one’s discipline, and develop knowledge or creative (externally-reviewed)
endeavors. 7. Serve on committees, hiring committees, faculty senate, or as a student organization advisor. 8. Work with
university marketing to effectively communicate the program; and provide content for use in promoting the university,
department, and program.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 1. Ph.D. in a critical social science field with a strong interdisciplinary studies
background. 2. Experience in student advising and counseling. 3. Experience in online, hybrid pedagogy preferred. 4.
Experience in higher education administration preferred.
