I. THE VIRGIN BIRTH
A. In the Apostle’s creed we confess two wonders:
1. DIVINE CONCEPTION. “Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit.” What does this mean?
Genesis 2:7, 22, Jeremiah 1:5, Romans 1:3, Luke 1:35
2. VIRGIN BIRTH: “Who was born of the Virgin Mary.” Mathew 1:25. What is the R.C,
teaching of “Immaculate conception”? Luke 1: 46, 47
B. This is a Wonder; a Wonder of God; It is the Wonder of God’s Grace! II Corinthians 8:9
1. It was a wonder to Mary! “Of her flesh and blood”! Belgic Confession Art. 18.
2. It is a wonder to us! We must be awakened out of stupor.
3. The whole marvel of Jesus birth fills our hearts with wonder! It goes like this…
II. THE INCARNATE GOD.
A. The Virgin Birth points the way to the greater wonder of the Incarnation.
1. What does the Incarnation mean? Philippians 2: 6 ff., Isaiah 7:14, Creed of Chalcedon
2. Islam’s denial of the Incarnation and the significance.
B. As God in flesh Jesus is Savior! Only Savior!
1. Our salvation rests upon the wonder of the union of the divine and human natures.
2. How so? Hebrews 7:25
3. We read with wonder and comfort the record of the ministry of the Son of God in flesh.
III. THE AMAZING PROFIT.
A. We have a Compassionate Savior. Hebrews 2: 18; 4: 14-16.
B. We have One Who “covers in the sight of God, my sins.” (Justification).
C. We have instruction in the Truth of Infant Regeneration. Luke 1: 43, 44.
Amen.
“We confess, therefore, that God did fulfill the promise, which he made to the fathers, by the mouth of his holy
prophets, when he sent into the world, at the time appointed by him, his own, only-begotten and eternal Son, who took upon
him the form of a servant, and became like unto man, really assuming the true human nature, with all its infirmities, sin excepted,
being conceived in the womb of the blessed Virgin Mary, by the power of the Holy Ghost, without the means of man, and did not
only assume human nature as to the body, but also a true human soul, that he might be a real man. .. so that in truth he is our
Immanuel, that is to say, God with us”. Belgic Confession Article 18: Of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ.
