Programme Structure:
The BA Language and/with English programme is taught jointly by the Department of
Cultures and Languages and the Department of English and Humanities.
All students on the programme must complete 360 credits to obtain a degree.
Students on the full-time programme are normally expected to complete this
following the pattern of 120 credits per year for THREE years. Students on this
programme must normally take 180 credits from the Department of Cultures and
Languages and 180 credits from the Department of English and Humanities; however
students are permitted to take a minimum of 150 credits and maximum of 210
credits on either side of the degree if they prefer to take more/fewer modules in
languages or English.
Students that exit the degree at *CEFR Level C2 (Language 5) will be awarded a BA
French (or German, Portuguese, Spanish) and English degree. Students that exit the
degree at CEFR Level B2 (Language 3) or CEFR Level C1 (Language 4) will be awarded
a BA English with French (or German, Portuguese, Spanish) degree. Students that
exit the degree at **JLPT Level N2 (Language 5) will be awarded a BA Japanese and
English degree. Students that exit the degree at JLPT Level N4-N3 (Language 3) or
JLPT Level N3-N2 (Language 4) will be awarded a BA English with Japanese degree.

Depending on your language level at time of entry (this is normally determined by
a language test before you start the degree) you will be following one of the
language pathways and programme structures specified below:
