St. Philomena Book List 2014-2015 Please note for all grades: Handwriting, Spelling, Phonics, Vocabulary and all Reading/Comprehensionexcept books for book reports (starting in 4th grade) will not be done at co-op, but you will still need to purchase them to work on at home. Each student also should bring in their math curriculum (Saxon, Seton, Singapore, etc.) to work on during Math time. Note regarding purchasing used books: Since we follow Seton’s lesson plans in teaching the courses, we will be using the most current edition of their workbooks (most have been updated since 2010). The only books that can be purchased used are: English: Saint biographies and book report books/novels from 4th grade through high school; Science: Swimming Creatures of the Sixth Day; Exploring Creation with General Science 2nd Edition; Biology: A Search for Order in Complexity; Apologia Chemistry 2nd Edition; History: History of the United States 8; Christ the King, Lord of History; Christ and the Americas; American Government in Christian Perspective; The Federalist Papers Religion: First Communion Catechism, New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism No. 1, No. 2; Witness to the Faith 8; Baltimore Catechism 3 (new edition, not the one with the green cover); all Laux books for high school (Mass & the Sacraments; Catholic Morality; Understanding the Mass; Introduction to the Bible) Math: Any that haven’t been written in One last note regarding used books: Parents of older students who are looking to pare down their home library should consider offering any of the above titles to co-op families to purchase at the going used-book rate; also, parents can offer completed workbooks as a teacher’s guide for the following year. Lastly, if you have a few years between kids and can offer a book to a teacher to use, write your name in it and let the teacher take it over the summer to prepare for next year’s classes. (Obviously, this will all happen at the very end of the school year!)
