THE POSSIBILITIES – LEARNING & SCHOOLING
“Walk and Talk” - Stephen Heppell
Walking around the Mark Oliphant College site to explore the drivers of change
and discuss views on new approaches that make learning more engaging and
effective.
Differentiation - what it means in practice - Troy Matthews/Shirley Hammond
Creating successful educational outcomes for students with learning difficulties
with a specific focus on using student files to differentiate the curriculum
"The Critique Protocol" - Emily Grandison & Mel Dudek
Students critiquing their own and other students work in the pursuit of excellence
was one of the key principles learnt from our work with High Tech High. It has
become a key methodology to enable students in many classes across MOC
improve their work. This workshop explores the protocol and its benefit.
"Project Tuning" - Candice Horton & Ashlee Button
Project tuning occurs once you have planned your project. Do you have a
fabulous project idea? Does it need some kind, helpful and specific feedback to
make it even better? Would you like to bounce ideas off your colleagues? Well
this session is for you! Bring along your project idea and be a part of an informal
project tuning. Learn how to tune projects and more.
"Third Spaces" - Lynne Symons
Shops and cafes are often called “third places” (in contrast to the first and second
places of home and work), and are considered central to community vitality. At
MOC we have been exploring the third places in our school and how we
can make them relevant and vibrant.
"iTunes U to curate curriculum" – Dean Clark

f you aren’t aware of iTunes U, it’s a depository of entire courses of educational
content for K-12 institutions, universities and colleges, and other institutions
Apple terms Beyond Campus, which includes a wide array of institutions from
museums to the Washington National Opera. Come and see some examples and
learn how to create your own courses.
“Senior Years – from reluctance to engagement” - Kathleen Hoare
The Senior Years at MOC has a block timetable system. Students from Year 10
through 12 now have more time on each subject. There is an expectation that
subjects in Years 10 and 11 will “teach together” with a product at the end.
“Project Based Learning in action” – Katrina Axford
Project Based Learning has become a major focus of the College. Visual Arts
skills and product have become central to many of the SY integrated units of
work. Students will support with the presentation of why this approach has
become so successful.
"Explicit Instruction – Beginning of the journey" – Kim Cooper
At its core is the belief that all student can learn the skills they need to reach their
full potential. It’s the role of the teacher, therefore, to make sure these skills are
learned through step-by-step teaching. That is, breaking down essential skills
into their many parts and guiding students repeatedly until they have mastered
each step.
“Recount, warm ups and other practical elements” - Linda Rich, Phillipa
Arbuckle, Chan Welfare
Developing consistency in curriculum delivery R-10 through documentation and
practical strategies for supporting students to move knowledge from short term
memory to long term memory using a strategy known as 'warm ups.'

“Mindfulness” - Geelong Grammar
Wellbeing of the body and mind is explored through the practice of mindfulness,
developing resilience competencies and managing physical health
“Flow”- Geelong Grammar
Discovering the impact of 'peak engagement' or 'flow' experiences on our
wellbeing and exploring personal pathways to achieving them
“Posiitve Education - Allied and community services” - MaryJane Tenison
Woods, Tracey Alexander
Positive Education embraces all of the 5 dimensions of well being - physical,
social, emotional, spiritual & cognitive. We will explore all of the programs we
have at MOC to help our students not just survive, but thrive and flourish!
“Positive Education - listening to student voice” - Connie Soltysiak, Jerelle
Steer
Student Voice at Mark Oliphant College is going from strength to strength and it
is an integral component of our holistic approach to positive education. Providing
curriculum and decision making opportunities for student voice and student
choice builds confidence, resilience and connects students with their learning.

“Positive Engagement - MOC+ / CU” – Colette Bos
'An insight into how we use the Children's University and MOC+ enrichment
programs to lead our students on their path to flourishing through feeling good
and doing good.
“Children’s University” - Sally Owen
How involvement in Children’s University contributes to the principles of Positive
Education and encourages individuals, schools and communities to flourish
“Praise Pod” - Ella Ailmore
Praise is critical for all children. Through using praise pod we are making that
praise public and immediate to their parents using 21st century communication.
“Positive Emotion – Gratitude” - Barry Solomon, Kylie Christians
This workshop will focus on developing positive emotions with an emphasis on
the character strength of gratitude. It will include strategies applied by staff at
MOC such as “Bucket-Filling” and “Love-Bombing” with Primary and Middle
Years students.
“Resilience -Character Strengths” - Maryjane Tenison-Woods
What are our character strengths? How can we use them? How can we
recognise them in others and help our students to recognise and articulate them
about themselves? Following on, we will explore resilience and well being, and
how to tap into our internal and external resources.
“Positive Achievement – Mindsets” – Colette Bos
Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned psychologist Carol
Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success—a simple idea that
makes all the difference. What does this mean for our students and teachers at
MOC?
DIGITAL LEARNING
“Creations of iBooks” - Simon Shaw (ADE)
Available for free on the Mac App Store, iBooks Author is an amazing app that
allows anyone to create beautiful iBooks Textbooks — and just about any other
kind of book — for iPad and Mac. With galleries, video, interactive diagrams, 3D
objects, mathematical expressions and more, these books bring content to life in
ways
the printed page never could.
“Code Jam to Computer Science” - Emil Zankov/Tom Ranieri
Coding scares you? Fear not! Come and learn how to code a game that you can
take away using free software for both the Mac/Windows.
“Living in my digital world” - Student presentation with Stephen Heppell
A student panel discussing their use of digital technologies, with other examples
of student work shown from Stephen’s visits to schools across the world.
“Developing a Digital Portfolio” - Craig Brown
Creating Websites with WIX - This workshop is aimed at new users of WIX or
people wanting to learn how to create a website either for their professional
portfolio or to use with students to create new ways of presenting and sharing
information. This is a hands on session where participants will make their own
website.
“Makers Empire - introducing primary school classroom teachers to 3D
design and printing” –Workshop presented by the creators of Makers
Empire
“Audio recording and editing for the classroom” - Brett Madigan
This workshop will look at various methods of how to record in the classroom
environment, including how to enhance the sound quality of the final product.
“Technical Panel - How we make it work with 1600 devices?” - Mark Engels,
Dean Clark & Dale Riggs
"Use of Ipads in the Early Years" – Year 2 Team
MOC Early Years students have their own iPads. This session will cover how
they are integrated into the classroom, the pedagogy and apps used.
“Stop Motion movies with iPads” - Ryan Parsons, Clayton Page
PY students have used iPads to produce animations in various learning projects.

MAKER SPACE
Raspberry Pi/ Arduino Hacker – Emil Zankov
During the workshop we take you through putting together a soil moisture sensor.
Hacking cheap open-source hardware is the aim here!
Community Art – Michelle Mitolo
Be prepared for a hands-on Art experience with Michelle, City of Playford’s
Placemaking Officer
Outdoor Kitchens or Buddy Benches – Phillip Hind
