Job Description Job Title: Department: Reports to: FLSA Status: Nursery Worker Martin County Farms Restoration Manager Non-Exempt Position Summary Provide support and labor for Martin County Farms and native landscaping projects. Position Responsibilities Conduct harvesting and native plant installations in natural areas throughout southeast Florida. Plant, spray, weed, and fertilize plants. Operate machinery and equipment to spray, fertilize, cut, and transport plants, shrubs, and trees. Treat invasive plants with herbicide as directed by and under licensed Crew Supervisor and/or Applicator and use machete, spray bottles, and/or back pack sprayer. Identify target and non-target plant species. Conduct support duties such as errands, routine maintenance, or other duties as directed by Operations. Communicate daily with Manager. Fully understand and adhere to all herbicide labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Fully understand and adhere to all of AVC Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Safety Plans and Programs, and Handbook. Maintain appearance and attitude in such a way as to positively portray the company internally and externally. Essential Skills and Experience Equipment operation experience as related to AOR. Knowledge of plant identification. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions. Ability to understand weather and site conditions to determine safety concerns and correct for them. Valued but not Required Skills and Experience Valid driver’s license in compliance with AVC’s criteria. FDACS Pesticide Core and at least one other category certification as related to AOR. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to seasonal weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, standing water, dry, and humid conditions. Site conditions often include dense vegetation, poisonous vegetation, uneven terrain, and swampy terrain. Sites are often occupied by native and non-native wildlife including but limited to alligators, crocodiles, snakes, spiders, bees, and stinging and biting insects. The noise levels in the work environment are frequently extreme.
