2015 Siganto Foundation Artists’ Books Research Fellowship Application form State Library of Queensland is a leading collector of Queensland’s documentary heritage and aims to make these resources more visible and accessible to Queenslanders and the rest of the world. The Australian Library of Art within State Library holds a significant collection of artists’ books. The collection includes works using a diversity of materials and methods of printmaking, binding, papermaking and other bookmaking technologies and wide ranging conceptual frameworks. They can be handcrafted or commercially printed; unique; or in limited or unlimited editions. Forms range from the traditional codex to sculptural works, or they may have audio, video, installation, online and performance components. The Siganto Foundation Artists’ Books Research Fellowship, proudly supported by the Siganto Foundation, is to be used by an individual to undertake original research on one aspect of artists’ book practice, theory or history, making use of the resources contained within the collections of the Australian Library of Art. Subject to this general consideration, State Library allows the Fellow to determine expenditure of the funds and may require the Fellow to account for the funds awarded. This amount may be used to supplement the Fellow’s income during work on his/her project or to meet any necessary travel and research cost, within the parameters of the Fellowship. The Siganto Foundation Artists’ Books Research Fellowship is not intended to support research projects which are a component of postgraduate studies. The project must be completed within 6 months of the appointment of the successful Fellow. A final report is to be submitted to the project supervisor prior to completion of the project as well as maintaining close contact with the designated project manager. Outcomes: The recipient of the Siganto Foundation Artists’ Books Research Fellowship will produce a scholarly paper on an aspect of artists’ books practice, theory or history, based on investigation into the Australian Library of Art Artists’ Books Collection. The paper will be delivered as an illustrated presentation at an event to be confirmed by State Library at State Library of Queensland. A copy of the paper and an annotated bibliography compiled as a result of the research undertaken will be presented to the State Library for its collection. A non-exclusive copyright agreement regarding the scholarly paper and the annotated bibliography is required. The recipient of the Fellowship will be expected to compose and contribute at least 3 articles to the Australian Library of Art Blog related to his/her project. All outcomes should give due acknowledgement of the award Additionally, the Fellow is to be available for publicity purposes relating to the Fellowship. A State Library committee will consider all applications for the Siganto Foundation Artists’ Books Creative/Research Fellowship, and interview short-listed applicants. The recipient will be notified before any public announcement. All applicants will be notified in writing regarding the outcome of their application after the decision is announced. The decision of the selection committee is final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into in regard to the committee’s decision. It should be noted that State Library of Queensland staff are not eligible to apply. In the event of no suitable applicant being found in a particular year, the Panel reserves the right to withhold the Fellowship for that year.
