Technology Requirements:
The following are required by WAOL Washington Online hosts (Angel) and Mylabmastering
(MyMathLab) for all online students:

In case there is a discrepancy between the two sets of requirements, the student needs to follow
the higher requirements.
MyMathLab Installation Wizard – Needed to install plug-ins (Math XL Player, InterAct Math Plug-in,
the TestGen Plug-in for your course and more) specific to your MyMathLab course. The
MyMathLab Installation Wizard is found inside MyLabMastering in the announcements as well as a
button "Installation Wizard".
Technical Assistance:
You must use Internet Explorer for your browser. If you encounter any technical problems with
Mylabmastering (MyMathLab), call MML Tech Support at 1-800-677-6337 to ask for help. For
WAOL (angel) assistance call 1-866-425-8412 (toll free) or visit Angel Help for other help options.
Do not stress over technical problem, call immediately.
Student Learning Outcomes for Math 49:
 Solve mathematical problems involving whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers,
decimal, percentages, ratios, proportion, linear equations and graphing.
 Simplify problems using Order of Operation.
 Interpret written information, including graphs and application problems.
 Use creative thinking process to support solving problems and making decisions.
 Apply interpersonal skills in relating to others.
 The student will effectively communicate mathematical ideas in both everyday and
mathematical language.
 The students will understand how mathematical ideas connect to other subject
areas, real-life situations and career goals.
Beginning Instructions:
Go to the WAOL ANGEL homepage, choose your college and login. (Remember to bookmark the
login page for your college.) Once you are logged in, choose the course you are enrolled in.
There you will be given directions for registering in Mylabmastering (MyMathLab). After the initial
login to Angel, you will not need to do this again. You will do all homework, quizzes, proctored
exams and Discussion Board in Mylabmastering (MyMathLab).
First Day!
I would expect you to login and get started on the first day the classroom opens (usually a week
before classes begin). Step-by-step instructions will be given for registering in Mylabmastering
and doing Week Zero tasks. I would expect everyone to be logged in and acquainted with
Mylabmastering (MyMathLab) during week zero (the week before classes begin on campus). Your
first homework assignment is due the first day of the quarter. If you have any problems or

Grading Policy: The grading policy is found in Mylabmastering under Course Documents.
Homework:
 Homework exercises are assigned for each section of each chapter.
 These exercisers are graded.
Online Quizzes:
 For each chapter there will be an online Quiz.
 The quiz will consist of exercises from the Chapter.
 You may take the quiz as many times as you wish with only the highest score counting in
your grade.
Study Plan:
 If after completing Homework exercises and Chapter quiz you have not mastered the
concepts, you will be given a study plan. The study plan will consist of exercises that will
help you master all concepts for the Chapter. If you have exercises in your study plan,
you need to do some of them to count toward your grade. If you have mastered the
concepts, you will move to your next Chapters exercises.
Online Task:
 I will post a Discussion Board for student contributions. You will be expected to post your
most difficult concept for each chapter. Then each student will respond to at least two of
these difficult concepts for other students. I would expect at least three sentences in each
contribution.
Testing Center Tests:
 You will have a Chapters 1 & 2 test, Chapters 3, 4 & 5 test, Chapters 6, 7 & 8 and Chapters
9 & 10. These tests are one-hour online tests to be taken at a testing center or other
location where test proctoring is available.
 The Final Exam will be a two hour online exam taken at a testing center or other location
where test proctoring is available. Be sure you give yourself an hour (1) for the four
proctored exams and two hours (2) for the final. Check the Testing Centers or Proctors for
hours.
Disability Accommodations:
If you have a disability and need accommodations, please email the instructor on the first day of
class or contact the Disabilities Coordinator at the school where you are enrolled.
Attendance/Participation:
The attendance requirement is that each student login to Mylabmastering(MyMathLab) at least five
days during a seven day week (Sunday through Saturday) unless you are ahead of schedule, have
completed your homework and have taken the quiz for the Chapter assigned for that week.
Necessary Skills to be Successful in an Online Class:
If you will login to www.waol.org and click on getting started, you will find a quiz “Is eLearning for
Me”. Take this quiz!
 Computer literacy, email and basic web browser navigation is required in the class. The
assumption is made for a student enrolling in an online class, that the student has basic
computer skills including email, attachments, viewing in Word and posting messages and
navigating in Angel as well as Mylabmastering.
 You must be self-motivated. That is, you set aside time each day for your class as if you
were attending that class. That is a time without interruptions, where you can concentrate
on your work.

Keeping up and communicating with the instructor are two of the most important aspects
of this class. You may post any questions in Blackboard under Discussions.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS:
1. Be online daily (at least five times a week).
2. Complete assignments on time.
3. Seek out help when needed.
4. Focus on understanding the concept – don’t try to memorize the steps!
5. Practice, practice, practice!! Since math is a skill, practice is necessary to become
proficient.
USE ALL AVAILABLE RESOURCES:
1. Video lectures (CDs in QuickTime).
2. Use the Multi Media Library where power point presentations, videos and animations are
available for each chapter.
3. The “Show Me” associated with the homework.
4. Post to the Discussion Board to get help.
5. Use the online and phone tutorials.
(All extra materials are available when you purchase your book with MyMathLab included).
