Globalization Essay draft
Modern globalization is the phenomenal act of the integration between countries, yet
globalization in the past had an opposite understanding where there was the cold war. Globalization
nowadays resulted in the revolution all over the world regardless to the difference of place, traditions,
and religions who communicates together through the web, also globalization had a great effect on food
due to the massive change in societies.
Friedman(2005),in his article “Prologue: The Super-Story” , defines globalization as the
connection between countries. This connection has improved rapidly in the last couple decades in
communication and transportation unlike in the past. Few features of modern globalization contradicts
globalization in the past where they used to have a “cold war” which was a time of the disconnections
between nations, also there were no weapons used, nations developed hatred towards each other.
Recently, globalization is the connection of the world whereas the world has become like a small village
due to the usage of the internet. The cold war had effected many countries due to the lack of
communications between them thus it caused many economic shrinking, unlike now globalization is the
main cause of the countries efficient economic status.
An internet survey has been made to show how many Americans youth uses the social
networking websites, the results of the internet survey was approximately half of the Americans youth
uses the social networking websites besides the majority are girls. Amanda Lourdes Aguire is one good
example of online communities addict. She encouraged her sister and friends to join these websites,
also she claims that online communities like Facebook and Hi5 enables her to communicate with her
friends she made during her high school years. Furthermore, Amanda particularly demands that it is
useful to stay in touch with friends who live in different countries(Reimi, 2007). When Amanda is
communicating with her who live abroad she probably wonder’s through their updates on their web

pages that there are changes in in the kind of food her friends eat, also she will be curious to know more
about these different kind of food therefore she may try to cook the food or visit the nearest foreign
restaurants and she may love the idea of trying foreign food every now and then.
Globalization had greatly effected food all over the world. When traveling to an Asian country it
is easy to pinpoint out some American fast food restaurant(Joo Sam Lee from Korea, 2007), thus the trip
will be easier without trying new kinds of food that may not be suitable for foreigners stomach. In the
“Lecture focuses on globalization, innovation in food industry” reported from a student in Miami
university(2007), Anna Lappé, at the end of her speech told a story from her hometown
Brooklyn, N.Y., about a group of students turned an old baseball diamond into an organic
vegetable farm where they grew and sell organic vegetables. Jessi Brown a member in the
Students for Peace and Justice(SPJ), devoted "We want to show others that (eating organic
foods) is very doable and accessible". Moreover, in Asian countries they started to use
American spices in their traditional food like ketchup and mayonnaise(Yeunhwa Jang from
Korea, 2007). Globalization is the reason that there are many different restaurants from
different countries in each place in the world.
On the other hand, globalization had impulsively annoyed cultures due to the spread of
fast food that facilitated all societies in the world. “Super Size Me,” A film that was released in
2004, discussed food issue in 2004. An independent filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock, ingests food
only from McDonald for all meals for a month which caused him severe health problems. Fast
food issues has continued to grab the societies attention and show the severity of fast food. In
addition, Lappé declared that the food processing is negatively effecting the environment and
society’s economy, also Brown noted that “This is something that doesn't cross a lot of minds,

but it has big impacts that we don't think of” that’s true people nowadays care about eating any
kind of food that could shut down their hunger only not caring about the quality of the food
being ingested. Moreover, fast food had ruined the eating habits in societies due to the
expansion and the number of fast food branches in each country(The Dominance of Western
Fast Food, 2007).
Globalization is the main reason of the mixture of cultures unlike in the past it was the
separation of cultures. Globalization eased the communication all over the world, also it mixed
a great deal of food from different cultures and it even became ordinary to eat foreign food in
any mall or neighborhood were foreign restaurants are found.
