The Hydrological Cycle… By the end of the week you should be able to or have completed... 1 Description of the global Hydrological Cycle 2 Describe a Drainage Basin and how the Hydrological Cycle ca operate within it 3 Describe and explain how humans can change and disrupt the hydrological cycle 4 Create your own hydrological cycle that incorporates both natural and human elements 1 Draw a flow diagram that shows the global hydrological cycle… use the following terms: a. Evapotranspiration b. Condensation c. Precipitation d. Infiltration e. Surface Runoff f. Groundwater flow g. Surface Store h. Water in vegetation 2 i. Evaporation j. Transpiration Read page 278 and Draw a sketch that demonstrates an understanding of a drainage basin… incorporate labels… Develop a hydrological cycle diagram for the drainage basin… use as many key terms as possible… how does the drainage basin hydrological cycle vary / differ from the global one? 3 What is missing from the two hydrological cycle diagrams are human activities… Make a list of all the ways that you can think of that people may change the hydrological cycle. 4 For each of the following human activities explain in detail using technical terminology how each may change the hydrological cycle… be as detailed as you can… a. Deforestation b. Dairy farming c. Building a parking lot / car park d. Building a hydroelectric power plant with a dam e. Urbanisation (the growth of a city) 5 Now… the assessment element… a. You must create an artistic piece that represents the hydrological cycle including both some natural and human elements… it should be a visual / artistic / animation / song … you have a choice but it must be creative… there is rubric for assessment and it incorporates creativity, entertainment value as well as the Geographical elements of the hydrological cycle. b. The presentation must be produced as a group with a supporting written piece that explains the presentation and outlines the roles of each participant. This should be in the region of 500 words. c. The presentation and associated writing is considered as a MEDIUM assessment and must be submitted during the first class of the week commencing 31st January.
