POSITION TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Rehabilitation Services DATE: 06/30/14 JOB SUMMARY: Speech-Language Pathologists assume responsibility and accountability for a designated group of inpatients and outpatients. Speech-Language Pathologists provide speech therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments in accordance with the Missouri practice act and established hospital and departmental policies and procedures to promote or restore the patients’ highest functional status while providing quality patient care. Speech-Language Pathologists provide speech therapy interventions and patient/family education, and work cooperatively with other patient care providers using interdisciplinary teamwork. Speech-Language Pathologists participate in performance improvement programs and development activities, provide input in budgetary planning processes, contribute to cost-effectiveness of services provided by the department, communicate observations and suggestions related to opportunities for improvement, and maintain positive relations with all customers. Speech-Language Pathologists participate in department cleaning, organizing, and monitoring equipment safety/status, and assist the unit secretary as needed and as appropriate. Speech-Language Pathologists may be assigned to orient staff and students. Speech-Language Pathologists may also assist in WMMC support groups as appropriate. WORKING CONDITIONS: Generally pleasant environment consisting of outpatient gym areas (including pool area) and appropriate inpatient areas as needed to treat inpatients. Subject to frequent interruptions, and manageable patient caseload. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Valid registration and licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts with a minimum of a M.S. or M.A. degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited ASHA certified school. Speech-Language Pathologists must be working towards of have earned their Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American SpeechLanguage-Hearing Association. The speech language pathologist is to be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients of all ages as allowed by the Missouri State Practice Act for Speech-Language Pathologists.
